I was 100% equities before the crisis, and am the same now. Contributions continued, but not in any significant amount to make a difference.
I am an optimist and have faith in our collective ability to always do well . But I don't pretend to know if we are in for a drawdown or a spike upward in the near future. Crises are known to surprise us.

I wouldn't worry. Just means the drawdown was quick, and you are back to where you started.
In your investing lifetime, there will be other opportunities to TLH. This was but a blip.

There are many people that saved them, including medical professionals and other researchers. This is of academic interest to a lot of programs that include modeling as a core component.

The IHME Murray model has not been anywhere in the ballpark. Errors of 70% overestimation (with assumption of 100% social distancing) when compared to actual hospitalizations, beds needed, deaths etc.
Good news - things are looking up. That is excellent.

I almost find it comical that the market is basically shrugging off the now 10M jobs lost in the past two weeks I find it strange too, but this "should be" temporary. Maybe. But that's probably what the average thought is. 10 million will go BACK TO WORK in a month or two, and we still get to keep the $2 trillion stimulus. Dr.Fauci has said in interview that job losses are "inconvenient", and recommended a nationwide lock down until there are no more cases. Perhaps the market feels the same, that it is just an inconvenience. Everyone I know who has lost a job are completely unworried. I heard about the infrastructure proposal. I would be curious to see which industries these would be allocated to, and in what ways. I don't think this will all end up being new construction, or even most of it. A lot will be invisible spending (in a good way). I think it will be a very long time before the monies make it through to real projects (my educated opinion). The fallout from this virus would be a reevaluation of current infrastructure safety and emergency management. I hope so, and I expect that will be a big focus. For example: Airports and ...

That is true, with a caveat. There is no risk TO YOU, but someone always bears the risk. Risk doesn't go away, it just gets transferred. Perhaps transferred to everyone else collectively.

The problem with this thinking is you don't know when the rebound will be because you don't know the path of the virus - there is no guarantee we get this under control, and even if it does peter out, no guarantee there aren't periodic waves or resurgences of it. This could be a year or more shutdown for all we know. Could easily lose 67%, even 80% or more. The economic destruction is real. Some people like to always see the worst. If something is going well, they think the worst MUST be around the corner. If something is going poorly, they say "see, it could get worse". Then there are the optimists. This thread will be revisited on that date to show the genius that I am.
Finally a different kind of thread
I'm not sure your prediction will pan out. But if the world is ending, I'd rather go out hopeful and shooting for the moon than scared of my own shadow and in misery the rest of my life.

Buffett is home, self isolating. Like everyone else.

Personal preferences I suppose.TheTimeLord wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 9:03 am Why do investors with significant assets continue to use percentage based asset allocation? Wouldn't you want to start measuring risk in dollar terms or have a minimum amount of fixed measured in years of expenses?
I find the latter camp preferable myself.

Interesting. Thanks! I can't imagine how it is enforceable.technovelist wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 10:00 am Different banks have different rules. There are reports that Chase has forbidden precious metals other than collectible coins in safe deposit boxes: https://safedepositboxinsurance.com/201 ... x-holders/. I don't know the reason.
I might just have to sleep on my gold brick bed then.

Re: There Is No Gold
Some is generational for sure. Other is cultural (common in many countries to value gold). And a segment that buys it for diversification or security (not sure many millennials do this though).lock.that.stock wrote: ↑Fri Mar 27, 2020 9:45 am My parents always owned physical gold for "security". When I asked them the question of how that security will come to the rescue in the down times they say they're not sure how, or if they can even sell it.
I wonder if this is just a generational thing. Baby boomers loving gold because of a general belief it holds its value or appreciates vs. millennials who don't think its worth anything.
