The bear doesn't always eat you all at once.

It sometimes plays with you, making you think you can escape....lures people back into the market...then mauls them again.

Re: Coronavirus and the market

I was checking "MarketWatch", and saw this headline from the AP Asia:

Nikkei rebounds, while indexes in mainland China surge.

Hope the US follows, tomorrow.

Re: who is worried and feels like selling stocks?

I am responsible for my brothers trust. Almost all of his funds are invested in Russell mutuals, through Key Investment Services. The Expense ratios are very high, at 1.28%. I'm thinking of closing out, and getting his money back in the bank, even at a loss. Then when the markets return, re-invest ...

Re: Doe anyone make money with bonds?

Thank you for the good information from all the posts. Today I got another wake up call. I transferred $50,K to my Vanguard MM fund last week, and was waiting to see how things looked Monday,(today). Glad I did. More importantly, I saw first hand how my bonds worked during a sharp drop in the market...

Doe anyone make money with bonds?

,,,, I was listening to one of those weekend real estate shows on the radio, and the host said,: "has anyone ever made any real money with bonds"? Got me thinking, after watching my portfolio performance. Any thoughts?

Re: New member, and advice seeker..

Testing the waters" with 22k sure sounds more like gambling or speculation. "Testing the waters", and talking about picking high risk funds, was not a realistic way to look at investing. As you can see, I took a more conservative initial route, with a 60/40, and cash AA. The $22K was just sitting i...

Finally made a move...

... the more I read, (mostly Bogleheads, wiki, Morning star, and some John Bogle interviews. I realized not only my lack of knowledge, but also my carelessness in thought. But sitting on the sidelines is also careless. Today I made my first fund purchases with Vanguard. 1). VTSAX , $6,000 2). VBTLX ,...

Re: New member, and advice seeker..

You can invest in Vanguards total market index ETF such as VTI https://investor.vanguard.com/etf/profile/VTI I am leaning towards the VTI as a primary fun at 70%, and as a secondary high risk ETF like VGT,(info tech) or VXF (extended market) Those secondary choices are high risk, so 30%. 70/30. Any...

"What is your goal for these funds? This makes a big difference." These funds are more of a primer, to build confidence, and knowledge before making larger investments. I have a small pension, social security, and low overhead. I am still self employed, though reduced hours, I can't see myself not ...

Out of curiosity, how did the single stocks from 20 years ago do ? in average gain per year ? more then 8% average ?
In April 1999,I bought 40 shares of Microsoft for $3,775, and now it is 80 shares(split), worth $11,638. The last 2-1/2 years it really took off.

Re: Question for Car experts - how urgent/important are these maintenance items

Squeaking is usually a loose belt or a failing belt tensioner. Get another estimate. Coolant, as with brake fluid and engine oil, deteriorates with age. I replace mine every 3 years. You can always go on a Toyota forum to see what others have done. Three years on coolant life is out of date informa...

Re: Question for Car experts - how urgent/important are these maintenance items

Unless the coolant has been tampered with, it will be fine for now. Check your owners manual for service recommendations. Belts these days go 120-150K miles. My dayco belt service guide shows allowable cracking. I would not change the belt yourself, as other items should be checked at the same time....

...I am a late starter in the investing game, except for a a few stocks purchased 20 years ago in a TD Ameritrade account. Also, I did try a brokerage firm a couple of years ago, but was not happy with their performance, after fees, and taxes. This week I opened a Vanguard account, and would like to...
