My primary mortgage + state tax deduction is right at the edge of the standard deduction. I haven’t done the calculation on itemizing and saving, which would reduce the interest rate cost, since the loan would be solely used to improve my primary residence. I can pay it down if necessary.

We live in the Bay Area and signed a contract for a solar system several months ago. They aren’t certain that they can do the installation before the end of the year.
