Re: Personal Advisory Service (PAS) issues

I am coming up on two years with PAS. So far I’ve been pleased with the service. We have rebalanced twice and I will have some pretty good TLH this year. On the two or three occasions when I wanted to speak to my advisor, I send an email and she gets back to me the next day. Will I do it forever? Ma...

Re: Vanguard Personal Advisor Services

Following up on my post from March 13. As of today, the rebalancing and TLH I did with my PAS advisor has worked out well. Our account balance is at a new high and we “banked” $40K in tax losses. We are now close to needing to rebalance in the other direction, from stocks to bonds. It’s the first ti...

High Frequency Trading

For the last few weeks, there have often been strong moves up or down at the end of the day. I don’t know much about it but I suspect these are the result of high frequency trading algorithms closing out positions. I’m curious what the rest of you think about this activity - what positive contributi...

Re: Vanguard Personal Advisor Services

I have been a PAS client for a little over a year. I am 59 and DW is 57. We signed up to get organized as we got closer to potential retirement. Our advisor kept our allocation (50/50) the same but we distributed it differently, moving into bonds in IRAs and equities in taxable. The advisor we worke...

Re: Hand raising with impending layoffs

I’ve done it. Took a package voluntarily at age 50 in 2011 without a good plan in place. Bad timing. The economy and hiring were still slowly recovering. Also, finding a job after 50 is harder than at 40. I’ve done OK since but did much better financially prior to 2011. You lose a lot of leverage wh...

Re: Firm mattress recommendations

We bought a Puffy mattress online about 2 months ago. It is a “Bed in a Box”. It is 10 inches thick and pretty firm. Sleeping great so far!
