Re: Annuity vs Lump sum-58yr old- Advice ?

Run an IRR on the numbers and see what the interest rate would have to be to breakeven. Need to assume years of annuity payment. I am taking lump sum since my numbers worked out to 3.12%- I think I can at least get that much on my own. Other considerations- financial health of company to pay annuity...

HSA rules

On Medicare part A in 2020; will be retiring February 2021. Can carry medical coverage for wife under 65 and son under 26. I cannot contribute to HSA. What is the rule for wife to contribute in 2021? She will be covered under my former employer High deductible plan. Since she is 57 years old I think...

Re: Another Lump sum vs pension question - need help

If you have Excel, you could put some numbers into cells B101 and B102 on the 'Misc. calcs' tab of the personal finance toolbox , then evaluate the chart that appears to the right of that in cols. M-P. It's not fancy enough to deal with the two years of pre-62, but then again an estimate of the ret...

Re: Anyone here have a golden butterfly portfolio?

Tyler9000 Have read all the portfolios on portfoliocharts.com and although am very intrigued by your Golden Butterfly I am reluctant to commit to 20% gold. Have modified a bit with VNQ-5%, VPU-5%, GLD-5% and rest to bonds vs GLD-20%. Very similar results. I can't argue with the data, however, 20% go...

Re: Lump sum on pension or wait

Need to calculate internal rate of return based on hypothetical mortalities. And can you achieve similar rate of return or greater? This is the only true analytical way to determine a mathematical decision. I used 4% as break point and going with a lump sum. The other risk factor is will your compan...

Re: Struggling Over whether to Sell my Tesla Stock

Had same situation with Apple stock. As approaching retirement I decided to sell a portion to purchase dividend growth stocks for retirement income. You may want to determine how much income you want to generate and allow some of the TSLA proceeds to contribute. That way you force a rebalance that w...

I have also been "playing" covered calls and cash secured puts. I aim for at least 1% per week and stick to a 1-3 week duration. You are not missing anything ...until you lose. Blue Collar Investor- Alan Ellman has some excellent books and a website for education and his website (charges) ...

leveraged ETFs

Anyone ever consider a portfolio consisting of TQQQ, UPRO, UDOW at 5% each and rest in a bond fund (AGG). If you run portfolio visualizer on this portfolio it is quite attractive; getting 45% of market with 15% cash investment at risk and over long term returns are 9.26% (2011-2020) with a Sharp rat...

Have been buying since recommended by Dr. Roizen (Cleveland Clinic), a few months ago. Adcom vote of 16-0 was a pleasant surprise(unanimous nature). However, in December the FDA wil decide on the labeling , or how wide spread the usage can be. This is the money$$$ decision. AMRN financials are solid...

Re: Adding Muni bonds, high tax bracket.

I have invested in MIY, Michigan Muni for past couple of years.
Has done well so far.

I think Michigan is in decent financial shape; do not expect a repeat of 2008-2009.

My experience.
