when I say VINIX, i wanted to actually say SP500 class, so ETF version will be VOO, in this case.

So, again the same question is VOO better than VTI ?

In general I would make sure your retirement accounts, including Roth IRAs, are maxed before using a 529 plan. Contributions to a Roth can always be used for education expenses tax and penalty free, but the reverse is not true: 529 monies cannot be used for retirement (at least, not without penalty...

You can also consider a non deductible contribution and later convert/roll to a Roth IRA. No deduction now, but once you convert you get tax free growth. If you do so, be sure to record a non deductible contribution on its 8606 to track and avoid paying taxes a 2nd time when converting to Roth IRA....

after ready some replies, I think I am missing some important information.

My understanding in that I can contribute to *either* 401k or traditional IRA (unto $19,000, for 2019) *or* a combination of both.

Is this not correct ?

I am 39 year old (FYI).
