Re: Long Term Bonds getting killed today

Reinvestment risk, interest rate risk, term risk, are all fundamentally the same risk: the risk that comparable alternative investment options would yield more or less than the option you chose. Doesn't interest rate risk actually affect the bond fund since it buys & sells bonds frequently, whe...

Re: Timeshare offer experience

100,000 Marriott points might get you 3 hotel nights in London, but probably 2.A mid level hotel is 35,000 points a night. Those 100,000 points do not cover much in terms of flights if you convert them. The points are worth $1,000. Whether that is worth the 90 min of timeshare pitching is up to you.

Re: FirstNet by AT&T

Never thought I would see a FirstNet discussion on Bogleheads... As an IT director for a mid-sized public safety agency in the Midwest, let me provide my two cents. FirstNet was conceived of as a dedicated public safety broadband network. What is the key use case for broadband? It’s data, not voice....

Re: Apple Pay. Does anyone use it?

Since I get 4.5% cash back with a real credit card using Apple Pay I try to use it all the time. I laugh when I see people all excited about getting 2% with Apple credit card. Have you tried using it at sit down restaurants? This is the only thing preventing me from opening up an account. Why does ...

Re: Timeshare offer experience

For Marriott / Vistana timeshares specifically, I have read that if you buy a unit on the resale market it does not come with the ability to convert into annual Marriott points. I am curious if anyone has bought a resale property and was subsequently offered the points conversion feature? How much ...

Re: HEDGEFUNDIE's excellent adventure Part II: The next journey

has hedgefundie recently posted his recent performance? I'm only 6 weeks in and down about 3.4%. VTSAX is up over the same window. I never learn... 2 months now. Benchmark(SPY) is up 4.15%. But I am down -2.86%. I am in TQQQ:TMF (45,55). Seems like your benchmark should be QQQ, no?

Re: How much do you plan to spend on your children's weddings?

There are Asian cultures where it is expected that you throw a wedding celebration for the entire community. On a PPP absis these events would probably cost six-figures. These are the same Asian cultures that are lauded for sacrifice, high savings rates, diligent work, and emphasis on education. Ma...

Re: How much do you plan to spend on your children's weddings?

Sidebar: Klang .... Calling a wedding celebration “useless” (which is sacred tradition and a sacrament in some cultures) seems like trolling and is unkind. I was married in a Catholic church. The donation (there was no fee) we gave was $100. The lavish reception, Rolls Royce limosine, open bar, big...
