I'm 10% Bonds in my 401k at 47 years old. I have being thinking about going to 20% now, I was going to wait until I was 50.

Too many funds creates a lot of overlap. It also dilutes your compounding because you're going to end up with a bunch of garbage funds. 10k saving local Credit Union for things happen (AC,Roof,etc). Don't even know rate, but it's low. 3 Months of income local Credit Union. 2% first 2,500 dollars, don't even know the rate on the rest but it's low. I keep 10k in savings at local credit union, this money is for things happen.

I keep 13 weeks of my income at Vanguard in money market, this money is for job lose.

I may never need either one of them but it helps me sleep at night.

Vanguard is great, I keep 90% of my buy and hold money with them.

I also just feel in love with Schwab. I now keep some buy and hold with them and all of my play money.

I will always keep 3 Months of income in cash.

This gives me 3 months to replace my income without having to touch any other money.

SCHB is what I use for my US equities. It’s total market “ish” (2500 stocks) and has a MER of 0.03%. For bonds, it’s pretty hard to beat Vanguard, I still use VCAIX and VWITX, I just hold them both at Schwab.
