A well established broker with over 4 decades of history and listed on the New York Stock Exchange (IBKR) versus a Cyprus tax haven company that heavily advertises CFD's and has slightly high fees (eToro). Very difficult choice!

Romanian here. First congrats, in Romania with 8 figures you are one of the richest men in the country. I am also having discussions with my father on this topic and he is afraid for example that the broker will steal his money, how do we know the money is invested actually, etc. This is all coming from fear and uncertainty coming from the 90's, there are a ton of banks that went bankrupt or defrauded the clients in the 90's when the financial system was not regulated. https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sistemul_bancar_din_Rom%C3%A2nia#B%C4%83nci_care_au_o_activitate_%C3%AEn_Rom%C3%A2nia Also in the 90's one of the biggest ponzi schemes of all times ran here in Romania in which is estimated up to 50% of all households invested into and represent...

Read more about broker risk here https://www.bankeronwheels.com/how-to-c ... ck-broker/ Degiro is a reputable broker in Europe, I wouldn't worry about this, plus the accounts are segregated.sojkadca wrote: ↑Mon Oct 04, 2021 8:49 am Thanks for all the great advice! My only question about Degiro that's left is how safe it is. Basically what I read on their site - if something happens with the company you will only get max 20 000EUR back (20k from the funds and 100k from the cash account), which sounds weird. Are any of you concerned about this? Because I want to keep investing there for the next 20-30 years so if something happens with the company it is not covered the same way as for example banks, right?

Are there any brokers that can manage this? P Well, there is this form of fund with a lot of stocks that tracks an index for example and it's called an ETF. Love it or hate it, you will never be able to replicate it well on your own because you lack the data or time to do this, and paying someone to do it for you will definetely be much more expensive than anything Read this post about investing in Austria, you are misinformed about taxes, unless something radically changed since last year: https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=310284 This is how a user calculates taxes on gains https://i.imgur.com/kwkeSfH.png And finally if you don't understand taxes there is no shame in talking with an accountant to learn how to do this by you...

Re: First time investor and overvalued market [Europe]
If it's so simple then you can time the market again and again, using an indicator for what you perceive as "overvalued" and become insanely rich. But will you be able to do this, if it's so simple why isn't everyone rich? No, no one can guess the future and no one knows secret indicators, a crash can come in 1 or 10 years from now, therefore the best time to invest is right now and the second best time to invest is tommorow.

If you are semi-retired, you might want to be able to rebalance your bonds portion of portfolio to add more bonds in the future, so keeping a simple 2-fund portfolio VWCE + bonds fund would make that easy, meanwhile with Lifestrategy funds it's impossible to rebalance, this being the biggest disadvantage for you

Re: Combining Vanguard Developed and Emerging ETFs - am I missing something?
Just go with VWCE - Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF, no need to rebalance. The simpler the better To me, the difference in the expense ratios is worth the annual rebalancing. I went ahead and converted my portfolio this morning, but I made some changes. The distributing versions of the Vanguard FTSE DM/EM ETFs seem okay in terms of liquidity, but the accumulating ones don't, and I have to buy accumulating ETFs. Because of the liquidity problem and because Vanguard is currently the only provider that uses these two FTSE indices, I decided to base my portfolio on the MSCI DM/EM ones instead. I went searching for the cheapest ETFs from prominent providers that have decent liquidity, and I settled for these: SPDR MSCI World UCITS ETF - 0.12%...

Just drop the BET index, you want to be a fully global diversified investor. If you don't believe me that holding it is a bad idea, check what happened in 2007-2008 with it https://m.bvb.ro/FinancialInstruments/I ... esProfiles. It crashed more than 80% and it only recovered to the 2007 level in 2021, this is the single worst thing you can put your money in right now.

Original poster, if you think it's so simple to time the market, why don't you pull 5% out of your index portfolio to play with and see what returns you have over 5 years. Maybe you are a truly skilled investor and you will know what to pick, also with such a small portion of your portfolio going active you won't miss it if something goes bad. Just so you understand the value of passive investing, I bet you won't beat the market over 5-6years of active investing with your strategy to "pick good companies"

After much needed reading and studying about investments, I finally decided on how and what I have to do. Mostly. I finally found that XTB would be the closest broker to what I need, considering I want to invest in ETFs domiciled in Irleand and I barely narrowed it down to this: 1. 30% - AGGU.UK - ISHARES CORE GLOBAL AGGREGATE BOND UCITS (accumulating) 2. 50% - IWDA.UK - ISHARES CORE MSCI WORLD UCITS (accumulating) 3. 20% - EIMI.UK - ISHARES CORE MSCI EM IMI UCITS (accumulating) I have also seen and consider...

You can think of it like this: FTSE All-World (VWCE) basically already contains the S&P 500(VUSA)!
If you don't have to believe me, just check the holdings of Vanguard's VWCE here https://api.vanguard.com/rs/gre/gls/1.3 ... nts/959/dk

If you want to further simplify and have everything in one fund go for Vanguard LifeStrategy funds, you can choose depending on what you need from 20% to 100% equities/bond allocation (maybe go for the one in germany/italy because in UK they have extra UK equities)

Okay, so I tried the Boglebot thing and got these: 60% or 80% Vanguard FTSE All-World - VQRA and 20% or 40% iShares Core Global Aggregate Bond (Eur Hedged) - EUNA 1. Considering I have 30ish years until retirement, which equities/bond allocation would make more sense? 2. I chose accumulating dividends, as I think I would be taxed on them otherwise. Does this make sense? 3. Are bonds "dead"? From what I understand, their returns are very low/zero now. Will this change in the future? 4. Considering that much of the stock market seems very overvalued right now, would it make sense to wait for it to go down a bit before starting to invest? 5. Are the Lifestrategy ETFs "better" than the 2-fund portfolio above? Apopogies for ...

The inactivity fee on IB is 10 dollars per month if accumulated transaction fees are under 10 dollars I'm not mistaken ( 10 dollars in total). Whatever ETF you choose make sure it's the accumulating version (auto reinvests dividends for you) . Vwrl is the distributing version and whenever you receive the dividends you can ofcourse reinvest them but you will have to pay taxes on them through the unique declaration for the tax authority ("declaratie unica" in romanian).

Re: Vanguard LifeStrategy ETFs now available in Germany and Italy
So do you guys find this as a good option for a one fund portfolio? I do think so. For one-fund portfolios, this one offers maximum diversification (all-world stocks, all-world bonds). A temporary issue is that these funds are very young and probably don't have much trading volume yet. And as tr3sori said, if the funds don't gain traction, they might be closed again. If they get above € 100M, they should be ok, € 500M is probably already very safe. That's also the yardstick that justETF uses for showing "fund risk" (< 100 red, < 500 yellow, above green). The 0.25 TER fee is ok. You would do better of course if you hold Vanguard FTSE All-World (0.22%) and Vanguard Global Aggregate Bond (0.1%) separately. A two-fund portfolio (depe...

Interesting question, I think as soon as Revolut begins to offer Vanguard ETF's it will be a best-buy in Romania because of low fees, now the best ETF's with US exposure have a 4% front-load fee and 1-2% administration fees per year, if Revolut comes with a few basis points fees it will be the best thing you can get
