Re: Hard Life Changes - Help With Looking For Employment After 10 Years

You might consider looking into doing translation work as a possible gap filler, given your scientific background and being bilingual. I worked for a company that frequently needed to get technical documents translated from English into other languages and it seemed like it could be pretty lucrativ...

Re: [EU|UK] Please review my portfolio

1. Despite being 40, I decided on an 80-20 stocks-bonds split, because I have a safe job and regular passive income from properties in Greece coming in. I am thinking of buying slowly into these products to build a balance of: * 10% EMIM: iShares Core MSCI Emerging Markets IMI UCITS ETF (Acc) * 70%...

Re: [EU|BE] Please review my investment policy

One mistake I made in my late twenties was underestimating "future" annual cost of living. Potential of having kids, lifestyle change, health, etc might all increase this estimate. This impacts your monte carlo success rate much more than a lot of other details in your post Good point. May I ask yo...

I would add that, since your currency is EUR, you should use EUR-hedged bonds - so VAGF instead of VAGE.
I believe both are hedged to EUR:

Global Aggregate Bond UCITS ETF EUR Hedged Accumulating (VAGF)
Global Aggregate Bond UCITS ETF EUR Hedged Distributing (VAGE)

Re: [EU|BE] Please review my investment policy

My observations for your consideration: Desired Asset allocation: 50% stocks / 50% bonds Two thirds of wealth in portfolio. One third in: - A two year emergency fund - (future) home equity - Small amount of physical gold You are in your late twenties. If I read correctly from above two quotes you ar...

Re: My portfolio: seeking advice (new “non- US” template) [China]

Thank you glorat and BeBH65. I would have definitely preferred iShares AGGG over Amundi global unhedged bonds (because iShares' assets under management are much larger). But iShares dividend distribution would add cost and complexity to me due to my broker/bank set-up. If that ever changes, I would ...

Re: My portfolio: seeking advice (new “non- US” template) [China]

Thank you for your input BeBH65, definately helps me think things through! To answer you questions: - The vanguard funds that you own are Mutual funds - if I am not mistaken - that are not bought on an exchange. In general we focus on ETF funds as they can be bought for small amounts. The mutual fun...

Re: My portfolio: seeking advice (new “non- US” template) [China]

Life insurance. What happens if you die in a car crash in Nairobi in 2020, leaving your unemployed wife with a 1 year and a 3 year old and no income? Point taken. This is something we need to take care of yes FWIW - it is Chinese wife who is pursuing stable permanent employment in Nairobi/Geneva, a...

Re: My portfolio: seeking advice (new “non- US” template) [China]

Thank you glorat My possible target currency is GBP so I'm split between GBP hedged and unhedged. Like you, I'm doing it based on feel... I don't worry about it much Maybe I think too much. Just wish my bond hedging decision was more scientific (so I am not tempted to change anything). Have of cours...
