Re: South Florida Local Chapter

Hi,

I'm a new S. Florida Boglehead and would love to attend. My name is Angela.

This is my first meeting, so is there anything I need to prepare, or bring with me, other than a pad of paper and pen?

Looking forward to it!

Thanks,

Re: Schwab Total Stock Market Index and Small Cap funds?

Thanks to everyone for your quick responses! I am glad to see that I am doing okay with just SWTSX and VTI.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Schwab Total Stock Market Index and Small Cap funds?

Hi! My current asset allocation is 60/40, with 20% in International equities and the rest in US equities. I am only contributing to my Roth (maxing out) and my 457b at work (100% bonds for this account). For my US equities, it breaks down into: My Taxable Schwab Total StockK Market (SWSTX) Vanguard ...

What are the Schwab equivalents to VMFXX and VMMXX (my accounts are at Schwab), or are Vanguard's better than Schwab? Thanks! Re: Money Market Decision

What are the Schwab equivalents to VMFXX and VMMXX (my accounts are at Schwab), or are Vanguard's better than Schwab? SWVXX is Schwab's Prime Money Market, equivalent to VMMXX. SNSXX is Schwab's US Treasury Money Market Fund that invests 100% in direct US Treasuries, equivalent to VUSXX. SNVXX is S...

Re: New member looking for AA and account reallocation advice

But if I ony have $7500 to invest for the year, and I want to put $7000 of that into the Roth, wouldn't it make sense to have most of my asset classes in that account? Things change all the time, but back when I was in your shoes, many funds had minimum investment amounts. That made it impossible t...

Re: New member looking for AA and account reallocation advice

I forgot to ask this -- since you have already left your last job, can you rollover your 457(b) to a Traditional IRA (like at Schwab)? You will then have access to the cheaper funds. I don't have a 457(b) so I don't know if the rules are the same as for the 401(k). It's an annuity, and I didn't hav...

Re: New member looking for AA and account reallocation advice

Hi Indexfundfan, The allocation you provided (thanks!) has my 18% old 457b plan in the bond funds from my new 457b plan, so I was confused. I have listed the available bond funds from my old plan (no index funds offered) in my post from earlier today (see Portfolio 2 allocation). If I go with your ...

Re: New member looking for AA and account reallocation advice

Welcome back! I like Option 3 the best. Just because I'd rather be in an inexpensive Vanguard Index fund than a fund that invests for me. Let's start with a bit about Asset Allocation, just so I'm sure we have you on the same page. Asset Allocation (AA) is used to control the risk of your portfolio...

Re: New member looking for AA and account reallocation advice

You don't need / want to mirror your asset allocation in every account -- if you do so, it will be overly complicated and asset placement will not be efficient. Consider all your accounts as a whole portfolio and allocate accordingly. I gave an example of a possible allocation in an earlier post: T...

Re: New member looking for AA and account reallocation advice

I am a new Boglehead and new to self-directed investing, and so much of the research I've been doing recently has seemed so terribly complicated, so I borrowed a book from the library, and through it I learned of the Bogleheads. I found this forum and wiki a couple of weeks ago, and the information...

Re: New member looking for AA and account reallocation advice

Welcome and congratulations on your new career. Thanks! Agree with suggestions already given on your emergency fund and investments. I also agree with Watty’s comments about the house and making sure your mom’s POA, etc. are in place so you can best support her. Take a close look at the cost of the...

Re: New member looking for AA and account reallocation advice

Current Goals: 1) In addition to needing to catch up for my retirement, the house is in need of numerous repairs which my Mom can't afford to make and my sister is unable to help out with. Re: New member looking for AA and account reallocation advice

Your target allocation shown below is a reasonable choice: 40% US Equity 20% International Equity 40% Bonds Agree with others to get rid of the high expense funds. It appears you have about 58% in taxable, 18% in the 457(b) and 24% in the Roth. Here's one suggestion how to allocate your funds, assu...
