Re: RMD from various IRAs

My DH has a tIRA and 3 annuities Edited: IRA Annuities (Don't judge, it was a weak moment). He has obtained the appropriate RMD amounts from the TIRA and 2 of the Annuities. Is it ok to request the remaining RMD amount from one of the other Annuities as a penalty free distribution and not as an RMD, then show it on our Tax forms as applied to the RMD? Or should we just resubmit another RMD request? This is obviously his first RMD year. TIA Lalamimi: For 2024, I had RMDs due from three qualified accounts. I is a traditional IRA, 1 is a 403b, and 1 was an IRA Annuity. The total of the IRAs can be taken from either one of the IRAs. The RMD from a 401k or 403b falls into a different category, as they cannot be "paired" with IRAs. In ...

As said, find a roofer and let them meet the adjuster. Ask if they are familiar with Safeco. You really don't even need to use that roofer. We had one who met with the adjuster and got roof replacement approved, but he rubbed my husband the wrong way. We then got with a great one recommended by a church member, and were able to also get the roof on the detached garage/patio that the adjuster did not approve done for the same price. total $28000 roof!

Re: Advice on Moving Out of High-Fee Managed Account

I would suggest first looking at the funds, see which can actually be transferred - We did not with Edward Jones, and they had to be sold and it took forever to get the money transferred to Fidelity. I would sell those first, then have your new company initiate the transfer. Be sure to print out or download, all statements, etc. Edward Jones locked me out as soon as they were contacted by Fidelity.

We started with Boomer Benefits 6 yrs ago - selected Mutual of Omaha. Premiums went up, changed on my own 2 yrs later to Aetna. - YES, you have to go thru underwriting in almost all states. (Texas here) Last year I used a new broker, went with ACE (CHUBB's new company). Policy renews May 1, will see what happens. Currently at $101 (72) and $95 (70). Have been happy with all, but we don't have but a few Dr visits a year, and some pain management for hubby.

Re: Window sash/screens/doggie door questions

a glass company should be able to replace the glass for about $200. We did it awhile back. bird flew into the glass, broke it. My friend had a doggie door that had a collar attachment for the dog, so only the dog could come and go. My grandmother60 yrs ago had a wooden insert in her patio door for the doggie door, my grandfather made it but I am sure it was not secure by today's standards. Lots of options, just Google it or ask on a neighborhood FB page.

We bought 10 acres 3 hrs from our home in 1999. Went as often as we could (daughter was about to graduate and go to college midway between the houses). It was on edge of hill country, TX, so lots of things to do. Sold in 2018. Miss it. Sold our primary residence in 2006, I got an apartment as I was still working, as husband retired at 56 that year. We have wonderful memories. Only met a few locals, but that was ok. Go for it.

Tow the mini van. I did not read any of the comments, but we have a travel trailer and Yes, gas will be costly. Are you thinking a huge RV, or one that is more the truck style? I am not sure of all the classes. Depending on the states you go through, state parks are very reasonably priced, and safe. We have traveled with a cat. ha. they do have some cat pens that I see people use at parks. get her used to traveling. Or, just drive and sneak her into hotels. Have fun.

Re: Father died and I'm totally overwhelmed on what to do

Condolences. I am in Houston. Contact the local police, let them know your mom is "on vacation" ask them to check the house periodically, and ask a few of her neighbors if you can to do this. Hire someone to cut the grass. Get the mail forwarded to your house. Your mom might be eligible for Aid and Attendance money through the VA. The funeral home usually provides death certificates. Get online for the banks, see what is paid automatically, etc., same with credit cards. Get with your mom, go to bank, get added to the accounts, close any unnecessary ones. I went through this in 2001, my dad was 68, mom 74, but in good health. When settled down, go through the house with her, take what she loves, give the rest away. But give her a c...

Its possible it is actually a private road and the property owners are responsible. We have several of these in our small City. Go to your City hall and talk to the councilman for your area. (or call first). See who actually owns it. My friend lives on one and about 6 people paid to have their section nicely asphalted. The rest was terrible. The city/state is about to widen my street (We own to the center, but there is an old easement to the City) so the County graded their nice section and cheaply e surfaced the entire street o traffic can be detoured. Good luck.

Petco called me 2 hours before her appointment the other day to get my dog bathed and groomed.(never used them before, first time to get her groomed). I had indicated on the preregistration she was heartworm positive, under treatment. (monthly heartworm meds) Well, they can't groom if this is the case. SO, today I dug out our old dog grooming clippers used on previous dogs, and gave her a nice clipping. $80 saved. Oh, she got a free bath at Tractor Supply Monday. She is an amazing rescue we got last April. Think Spitz and border collie. Just right size. 40 lbs, knee high. Loves car rides and camping.

At a local sandwich shop the other day, I bought some sliced turkey, a bag of chips and a paper my husband had asked me to pick up. The paper was $3. When I got home and looked at the receipt by chance, I saw I was charged for some sliced turkey, a bag of chips and a BLT sub at $9.50. I kept the receipt and went back in. They refunded my $6.50. Don't know what's going on but I keep running into more "mistakes" like that. I tend to think they're honest mistakes but - if I didn't catch it - I still would have been out $6.50. Have definitely been checking receipts more carefully. Monday I saved a lot using Kroger's digital coupons. One was buy 2 get 3 free for Cokes and Dr. I got 5. My prior houses were build in 1982 and 1991 and both had double pane windows and better insulation. We bought a "Cheap" 2nd home in 2012 as I had a great job in Houston (3 hrs from our "forever" home) and at the time I could buy for a mortgage less than a cheap apartment. It was ugly. But, it had a great backyard, and nice sized rooms. And some nice neighbors. We updated (it was built in 1977, no updates), on the cheap and stayed 5 yrs,(exactly the time we set, which turned out to be really strange!) before selling both homes and buying our now forever home. Decide the things you really want changed, and do it. Doesn't have to be high end. Again, might mention some of the problem areas you don't like for some suggestions.

I like doing what you just suggested but all in this trip.
We are ok with not staying long at each place and want to see as many as we can.
Delaware is at the very bottom of the list.
Ok if we just venture in for 20 minutes so I can die saying I saw all 50 states😊
My daughter and I took my mother to her 50th high school reunion in Roanoke in 1994. We then drove to see an uncle in Frankin, VA. I was born in Raleigh NC, but never lived there (parents were visiting my grandmother and her new husband over Christmas). My daughter and I drove into NC, just so I could say I was there. We then flew home out of Norfolk. Enjoy!
