Re: Too Late To Get Back Into Stocks?

Comments are appreciated. "Settled" to me means the removal of all Trump tariffs on imported goods, which may not occur until #46 gets sworn in. I've used the VG asset allocation questionnaires and generally I tend to follow them, perhaps a bit more conservatively than recommended. I'm just very wa...

Target Date 2035 Allocation

I noticed that the Vanguard Target Date Fund has 75% stocks and 24% bonds. I personally have 50% VOO and 20% VXUS and 30% BND, giving me a 70% to 30% stock/bond allocation. I feel like I should align with that fund in terms of allocation because it is more aggressive. However, I know that my desire ...

Re: Conceptual Q - Bonds vs Bond Funds

I was in the same boat. I bought a bunch of bonds, screwed up and ended up in a bond fund once I did the research and figured it out. To me, the risk is way more spread out with a bond fund, obviously. If yields go up then the fund tracks it and goes up. If yields go down I think the bond fund will ...

Are bond returns constrained by us debt?

I recall my Dad saying that if you had bonds in 1990, you would get 14% returns. I also have read that interest rates can never go up like that again, because at that interest rate, the US could not service its debt. It seems to me, and I am a new investor, but it seems to me that the fundamentals o...

Dunno. I never really paid attention to it until it became such a issue after 2008.

Just to add to the excellent responses above, reliably predicting which way GDP itself will go can could be a real challenge. Question about valuation

Does stock value predict future performance? If so, it seems odd to me. To me valuation is an indication of a thing’s intrinsic value. Bond fund diversification

I read somewhere that during one of the corrections (I believe 2008) that bonds went up 5% as stocks went down.

If this is the case, then wouldn’t this be a major advantage of bond funds over individual bonds in that they automatically go up when stocks go down?

Ok, so to sum it up:

It is "fine" to sell stocks in my taxable account and generate small amounts of capital gains to re balance.

And, it is "fine" to keep bonds in a taxable, rather than a tax advantaged account-- the money lost is not appreciable?
