Re: Did i mess up by paying AF 5% load

At your very young age, those costs are going to add up to a fortune over the 40+ years before you hopefully use the money. You will come out way ahead taking a little time now to shepherd the money to Vanguard and get it under YOUR control. Cheers!

Re: World 500 Fund?

I have mostly US equities but would like to not miss the best of the international. My bias is that I feel that the international haystack is not the same as the US equity due to macro economic and political factors. Still struggling with how to go about some international exposure in equities. Than...

World 500 Fund?

Any index fund that just contains the top 500 (or any other number up to 1000) in the world by market cap? What I am interested in would be a more select chunk of the entire haystack in essence. Thanks!

Re: Why can't I break up with Wellington? (Roth Conversion question)

My wife has no interest/desire to handle financial matters. To simplify one part of our financial puzzle, nearly all iIRA and Roth are Wellington. Why not have part of your money under management? I’ve backtested this fund vs many combinations vs 60/40 and if beats nearly all. Relax. You could do a ...

Re: Vanguard Target funds for Inherited IRA

Somewhat similar situation. My wife has an inherited IRA. 40 with not much for retirement saved due to careers in nonprofit/church agencies. We put a premium on growth and opted for Vanguard Wellington. Very low cost for admiral shares and it has outperformed the above mentioned funds. It has both d...

Re: thoughts on international funds

Such a statement should be very easy to support or refute with evidence. Is there any evidence that would support this hypothesis? Evidence? Instead of that, let's use common sense. Is there any reason to believe international will outperform (BEFORE taxes and expenses) the US total stock market ov...

Re: Are Bonds Still Necessary Ballast in a Long-Term Trust Fund?

Forgive this born worrier. You claim to be a born worrier, yet you are proposing investing a trust entirely in equities. I assume you are trustee of this trust. In that capacity you have a fiduciary duty to the beneficiaries of the trust, both current income beneficiaries and potential remaindermen...

Re: Are there any tips / best practices for an Inherited IRA?

My wife inherited an IRA recently of 180k. It was kept in a trust until this past April. Many months of reading. Our individual financial/life status.... 1. My wife has little to no interest in things financial. 2. We have worked in fields without much financial reward. 3. We are busy with kids and ...
