Me and DW are thinking of getting a Greenlight debit card for our young teen son. Has anyone done this with there kids and how is the experience? Also is there a better card/option?
Thanks much!

Re: Plateaued with my 45 minute workout - Age 47
I’m 45 however I don’t do long distance runs but I do a lot of speed workouts and plyometric.
Interval work will build your VO2 max up much quicker. I will hit the track and do 100/200 meter repeats so 100 meters @70/80% effort walk the next 100 but more importantly don’t do the next interval until your heart rate drops below a certain threshold like 120 BPM. I usually do 6/10 of these it really help me a lot. If you enjoy distance more just do 400 600 or 800 meter repeats just make sure you recover between. Do this 2/3 times a week and you will see the benefits mixed with plyometrics and a little weight training. There is no better way to torch fat and increase performance than sprinting.

Re: Ally HYSA to Vanguard VMFXX
Your plan is what I do--use Ally for checking (and very temporary savings) and the Vanguard settlement fund in brokerage as a de facto HYSA. The fact that it is the settlement fund makes it easy as I do not have to put in sell and buy orders (at least technically). I also don't use the other money market funds, mostly for this reason. VMFXX has no liquidity gates or fees and while it is not the most tax efficient, I figure if VMFXX is in trouble, then we all are in trouble. Once your new brokerage account is set up, you link the Ally account to Vanguard as described above (you can link to both checking and savings if you have both). You then log into Vanguard and use the "i'll send Vanguard Money" or "Send Me Money" opt...

I will have to open a Vanguard brokerage account first though correct because I can’t do it with my Roth account?BlackcatCA wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 8:17 pmThe easiest way is to start on Vanguard side, add Ally checking or saving account as one of your funding source, Vanguard will then send 2 trial deposits to Ally to verify you own the account. As soon as the Ally account is linked, you can buy VMFXX in Vanguard and used Ally checking/savings as your funding source for purchase.
There is no wait to pull $$ from Ally to buy Vanguard funds. There is however a waiting period of 7-10 days if you want to send $$ to Ally from Vanguard.

Hey all thinking of moving my cash from Ally HYSA currently @4.35% to Vanguard VMFXX 5.28%.
My question is once I log onto my Vanguard account do I open a brokerage Account and set it up that way and do a transfer from Ally? This will be our emergency fund.
Thanks Much!

I have been shopping 4Runners as well as this will be my next suv. I have been finding used ones with less than 50k miles between 30$/35$K. New ones around 42K. Don’t wait for the new 2025 model it has already been confirmed it will share the same power train as the new Tacoma which is a turbo. Any mechanic will tell you turbos will go out and are expensive. A mechanic above said this gen is rock solid and he is right. Don’t waste your money on the pro unless you do serious off-road. The SR5 or TRD off-road are best.

That may be the case that the dividends and cap gains are being reinvested or are being transferred to the settlement fund. It looks like all investments are buying the TDF. I will have to dig deeper into this.

Vanguard Roth IRA settlement fund?
Bogle heads need some help!
I logged onto my DW Roth Account to update maximize the 2024 tax year contribution which goes in monthly. However I noticed in the vanguard federal settlement fund is showing she has 37K in it. We thought it was set up to go 100% into VFORX 2045 fund. Can I transfer the 37K into the 2045 fund? Just want to make sure it will not be an over contribution since it is already in the Roth account. Thanks!

As an electrician it is not worth it unless you live in Arizona. If your roof needs replaced or gets damaged in a storm then that adds to the cost of removing all the panels. Solar is only 15/20% efficiency.

Looking for anyone who has experience with a small dog breed that’s calm. We had a golden doodle that was probably the worst dog experience I ever had. Jumped on everyone barking at everything. Nervous biting at guests ankles and wrists. We have a small yard so smaller dog would be better. Low shedding is a preference as well. Also good health breeds. Kids want a dog they can pick up and hold. Any recommendations on this is much appreciated.

Our family of five went this January 8/12 for the first time we all had a good time kids are 12,9,5. Stayed at Art of Animation which is a good middle ground resort right next to the skyliner that takes you to Epcot and Hollywood studios. Shuttle service runs every 15 minutes to Magical Kingdom and animal kingdom. We ordered instacart from Aldi right to our resort for snacks and some lunch’s to pack with us. Bring a good backpack with waters. You will use Genie plus App all day for navigation food and to reserve the rides that have longer wait times of course for an extra fee. Bring a portable phone charger. Our average wait times were 20/30 minutes most rides. All in all it was a good experience for all of us.

Re: Honda scooter?
Get something with larger diameter wheels if possible. I'd avoid any 2 wheel motorized or electric vehicle with small scooter style wheels. Bigger wheels with some mass do a lot to keep you stable and balanced. Agree that electric bike is a good option at this point for short commutes. This is a great point. An electric bike might be the ticket, especially since you can ride on sidewalks. j :D I would also advocate for this. I've seen too many people lose balance here in the midwest on a small wheelbase of a scooter because of our terrible at times roadways. It takes one little pothole or speed bump at 30 mph for you to lose control on the small diameter wheels, if you aren't fully paying attention. And even if you are paying attention, it...

After doing some research and reviews. Looks like rad bikes, Aventon, Lectric and super 73 are all good options in the E-bike market with good reviews and customer service. Me and my wife will have to explore all options as well as the Honda Metro that she prefers over the ruckus. I like that some of the E-bikes are us based companies. As someone who spent an excessive amount of time research and riding e-bikes before I finally bought ours a year ago: RAD is kind of the industry standard (think Toyota). They sell more e-bikes in the U.S. than all the major bike manufacturers combined. Not flashy or cool, but they are reliable, have great customer service, and it's easy to find parts and someone to fix them. Our local bike shop is an Avento...

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I will definitely check out the e-bikes they seem to be a good compromise. I actually do ride my bike to work when weather is nice but here in the Midwest summer I’m usually a sweaty mess when I get to work. My wife would probably rather get a scooter she is not the best of bike riders😁. Highly recommend the eBike route. I did a 10 mile each way commute on an eBike that maxed out at 28mph. For the tiny distance you’re talking about, I’d honestly feel safer going with an eBike. 50cc is so weak and slow on the road I’d not feel safe. If I were directly on the main road I’d want at least 125cc. Part of why I got the eBike as opposed to just using my regular bike was because I was working at the time somewhere...

Looking to purchase a 49cc Honda scooter for the wife and sometimes me.
She really likes the metropolitan and I like the ruckus. Primary use is for her 1 mile commute to work or occasional my 2.5 mile commute.
Anyone have any experience with these scooters? I figured Honda was a safe bet on reliability you pay a little more but I’m fine with that.

Hi, This is in the midwest in winter. My furnace stopped today. Turns out they need to replace the control board. It will cost around $800. The technician said the blower smelt odd and recommended to replace it. Thats another $700. Should I replace both parts for around $1.5-2K or replace the furnace? Any thoughts or comments on this being a good idea. Since your current truck no longer fits your needs and you can get a real high price for it replacing it makes a lot of sense. Would really like a suv with some off-road capabilities leaning towards a Toyota 4Runner 2017 and newer with low mileage. Prices I’m seeing on carvana are between $35k and $39k for under 50k miles. I have not been following it carefully but the 4Runners seems to be one of the cars that is mentioned a lot when people are posing about the car shortage. Paying that much for a five year old car is a lot. 4Runners could be in even shorter supply than most other cars. Are you set on only a 4 Runner or would you consider other vehicles? I'm thinking 4 door Wrangler as you mentioned offroad capability. I also would not be set on trading in. Carvana and Car Max both tend to have prices consistently higher than other dealers and certainly a private party could be many thousands less. So I would get prices from Carvana, Car Max and Vroom and keep that in your pocket if you find a suitable vehicle at a dealer. Negotiate for the 4 Runner/Wrangler, then bring up the trade. If they can't meet your best offer on the trade, sell to one of the above. I’m not dead set on a 4Runner I have considered a wrangler. I like the reliability of the Toyota though. I tend to keep my vehicles 8/10 years. Thanks I will also look...

Currently I have a 2012 Chevy Silverado z71. Bought used in 2015 for $23000. Carvana currently is offering me $20000. I really don’t need that big of a truck anymore plus getting my kids into the back suicide doors and parking are a pain. Would really like a suv with some off-road capabilities leaning towards a Toyota 4Runner 2017 and newer with low mileage. Prices I’m seeing on carvana are between $35k and $39k for under 50k miles. Re: Any Jeep Wrangler Willys sport or Gladiator owners
Yeah it would be my day to day driver. Fortunately my commute is not highway and less than 3 miles. Would only be on the Highway to get to my fishing spots and some off-road drives.Rwhp042 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 10, 2021 7:54 am Wife has a JLU (2020) Wrangler Willys and I have a 2021 Rubicon. If you get one for your only vehicle be aware that they are not the best highway cruisers. Wind affects them greatly and steering is not as precise as car or even a large pickup. We do some off-road, but the wife mostly uses hers for day to day. We really like them, but make sure your expectations are realistic.

Did you get the soft or hard top?London wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 8:49 pm I don’t have the Willys edition but I bought a JL Sahara for my mid life crisis and couldn’t be happier with it. It’s terrible on the highway and great every where else. I love the electronics, compared to my old Audi. And I love riding with the top off on the way to the beach.

Any Jeep Wrangler Willys sport or Gladiator owners
Hey folks seeing if anyone has a Jeep Wrangler Willys sport or Willys sport gladiator? I’m looking for any information on how you like yours. I’m considering one of these for my mid-life crisis purchase .

Taking walks or hikes
Playing just dance on the Nintendo to show my kids and can still dance sorta LOL!
Fishing, especially fly fishing for some beautiful rainbow or brownies.

Re: How much is your annual pension? (actual or expected)
I will have 30 years in at age 55 in public education estimated to be $4800/$5200 month. Once I’m eligible for SS at 62 it drops down and the difference is made up from SS. Our pension is COLA as well. 100% or 75% beneficiary to DW for she will most likely out live me.
Regards.
Regards.

We will look into this option thanks for the info!CFM300 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 7:56 pm I don't think one can contribute to a new fund on the VG small biz site. I think your wife will need to exchange from an existing fund to a new fund on the VG personal site. After that exchange goes through, she'll be able to make new contributions to the new fund on the small biz site. Clunky, for sure.
