Re: What are your LEAST favorite vacation destinations

Another vote for Las Vegas. Found the energy fun when I was a young man. Have gone a few times for work and other "non vacation" purposes , place just makes my skin crawl, everywhere feels dirty and trashy. The whole city now also smells like weed since it's legal. You can't escape it. I also noticed it's incredibly expensive to just get something basic like "food court" type food or even a water bottle. It used to be, as long as you didn't have a gambling problem, Las Vegas was a pretty cheap destination. That's long gone now. We literally never eat out, so my comment may just be out of touch with restaurant costs, but when we went in May (all-expenses paid Friday-Sunday trip from wife's employer) we agreed that we wer...

I remember seeing Steve Wynn being interviewed on TV many years ago (early 90s if memory is correct). He said that no matter where you go in the world, no matter what language someone speaks, if you say "Las Vegas" they smile. Because they know it is FUN.

To rip off Dr. Samuel Johnson, 'You find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave Las Vegas. Sir, when a man is tired of Las Vegas, he is tired of life; for there is in Las Vegas all that life can afford." It is all here. You just have to find it.

Regardless of where the account is kept, I'm not aware of any HOAs that own treasuries. Buying a US government bond and holding it to maturity is low risk, but my understanding is that trading treasuries that are not yet mature involves some level of risk, which HOAs aren't able to do. Re: All-electric vs. hybrid cars. Teach me! [Car with tech bells and whistles that’s not a Tesla]

Two reasons why I am looking forward to replacing my aging ICE vehicles with all-electrics is the lack of maintenance issues (oil changes, etc) and never having to stop at a gas station again. So to me an EV is strongly preferable to a hybrid. To me, a hybrid or plug in hybrid is superior to an EV due to 1.) MSRP 2.) Equipment needed to home charge 3.) Amount of time needed to charge up vs fuel up 4.) Maintenance is not as big a problem as EV enthusiasts lead you to believe 1.) EVs are still much more expensive than ICE or hybrids/plug in hybrids. My Prius was $24k brand new. (Now they are $27-$33k). EVs are $66k on average. Cheaper if you want a bolt, which I absolutely do not want. I purchased my ID.4 for $44.5k (MSRP) + $4k tax/fees - $...

Have your agent let their agent know you are terminating the agreement. Expect a lot of verbiage from everyone. You almost certainly won’t have any other ill effects. I don’t have any idea how a 44 billion purchase of a public company is in any way a useful analogy to backing out of a house purchase 72 hours later. 8foot7 If there wasn't any earnest money delivered, was there any "consideration" delivered to effectively enjoin a contract? The consideration is the $780k. It doesn't have to have been delivered. People sign contracts all the time with no money upfront. Exactly. This has been established precedent for over three decades. When we drove 277 miles from Los Angeles to Las Vegas my wife planned out where we would stop to recharge the Nissan Leaf S we had just purchased. We had six spots picked out - three in one location and three in another. First stop at a Walmart - chargers in the parking lot. No CHAdeMO chargers. On to a mall where there were chargers. Drove around for a while and finally found them. There were four chargers - three in use and one broken. We waited for a BMW to finish charging. Plugged in and went to walk the mall. Walked around - came back and the car wasn't charged up enough. Walked again. Then drove on. Stopped in Baker. Found chargers behind the World's Tallest Thermometer. The first two we tried were out of order. The third worked. Went...

Bonds are safety. Equities are growth. Buffett is simply telling us have enough money in treasuries to ride out a down market and put most of your money in growth assets. His plan works for anyone that has the willpower to ride the equity roller coaster.

Also known as Leonardo of Pisa, he is popularly known as Leonardo Fibonacci. Fibonacci is a contraction of filo Bonacci, meaning the son of Bonaccio.

Date Sequence
November 23 is celebrated as Fibonacci day because when the date is written in the mm/dd format (11/23), the digits in the date form a Fibonacci sequence: 1,1,2,3. A Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers where a number is the sum of the two numbers before it. For example: 1, 1, 2, 3...is a Fibonacci sequence. Here, 2 is the sum of the two numbers before it (1+1). Similarly, 3 is the sum of the two numbers before it (1+2).

Sounds like you are bothered by briefly stopping at a gas station once every 3 weeks to gas up but plugging in and unplugging every day isn't an issue. Most people would find plugging in and unplugging much more bothersome, especially those without garages and in adverse weather. Now it's winter. Snow. Sleet. Ice. I appreciate this response. As someone who has never owned an EC but considering for my next car, I don’t know how much of a pain coordination/inconvenience it is for longer trips. I was always thinking it would be difficult but most EV owners downplay this aspect. I drive 850 miles each way between our primary and secondary homes. The Tesla adds about 80 minutes to the drive, and also dictates when and where we stop. EV route mappers will tell you longer, compared with what you'll see on Google Maps, but it evens out more when you add actual stopping time to what Google Maps tells you. Re: I Cant stomach the market. Need to move into a safer position

41 replies and nothing further from the OP https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5414848#p5414848 Worth noting in Aug 2020 he started another thread about abandoning the market even though he had some bonds, but I guess after that went 100% stocks but now wants zero stocks. It doesn’t seem like participation in the forum is really sinking in. Kind of demonstrates that some people (a lot of people probably) really do not have the ability to be successful long term investors. Yet we have a retirement system that assumes everyone is (or at least can be) a successful long term investor. Quite a disconnect that. Don't be too quick to throw out mandatory pension style retirement systems even if you don't need it. I totally agree with ...

Re: Best EV for around $50k, or RAV4 Prime???

One of my coworkers bought a RAV4 Prime last year. She absolutely loves it. Driving around town she can pretty much run on battery most of the time. When she goes out of town she doesn't have to deal with the issues of finding a working charger and then waiting around for the car to charge up. Just hit a gas station and a few minutes later she has something like 600 miles of range.

Another vote for DHL. Not the cheapest but probably the best (most reliable).

Re: Do I need my landline phone?

I got rid of our landline a couple of years ago. I ported the number to Number Barn (https://www.numberbarn.com/) and forwarded it to my cell phone to make sure that I hadn't forgotten to change any 2FA. After about six months I let the landline number die.

With respect to calls in the middle of the night. I turn my phone off at night. The way I look at it, the only reason to call me in the middle of the night is to tell me someone died. That can wait until morning.

Re: Chase didn't pay me the full bonus amt on a new checking a/c

I am just back from my local branch and they, too, politely insist that I followed the wrong link. I am not being argumentative, I am genuinely trying to understand how this could happen. On the website, there was a link to Open An Account on the $300 promo for a new checking a/c. It said coupon would be applied when account is opened. How was I to know that the "system" would apply a $200 code instead of a $300 code? In hindsight, it might have been better to go into the branch and open the a/c there. My mistake was that I opened online and so Chase gets to say I was too stupid to follow the "right link" and followed a "different" link, instead? Here's where it gets even better. Per the branch staff that I ju...

Re: Chase didn't pay me the full bonus amt on a new checking a/c

I opened checking and savings accounts at Chase for the $600 offer. Direct deposit hit checking on Aug 11 - $300 bonus paid Aug 16. $15,000 deposited in savings Aug 3 - $300 bonus paid Nov 8.

As others have indicated, it is likely that you signed up under a different offer.

Re: One of own indicators “ stock market reached the bottom “

I've always liked this quote, which is similar to your observation. “Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful". -- Warren Buffett Even Buffett doesn't follow Buffett's advice. For the most part he sat on the sidelines in 2020. What do you mean “ for the most part he sat on the sidelines “ ? If he didn’t buy airlines stocks it doesn’t mean he didn’t invest. It wasn't just him selling out of airline stocks, he also sat on $100 Billion + He admitted that he sat on the sidelines when he should have been deploying cash. As for the airlines, him selling out of positions so the government would bail them out... Just awful that's where we are. Maybe if we had capitalism and let a few companies fail, some would lear...
