Re: ETF Education vs Marketing from Vanguard

I need to clarify my original post. I'm not complaining, I'm just curious. Vanguard already has me as a customer, and as I stated previously, I'm satisfied. My question is whether it's to Vanguard's advantage to have me switch some of my holding to ETFs rather than remain 100% in funds. Are ETFs le...

Re: Vanguard Advertising Mutual Fund to ETF Conversion

Do you have a legacy mutual fund account or a modern brokerage account? Everything is now brokerage accounts, though a few of my accounts were converted from the old mutual funds only. This is what I get when I click on Convert Now: https://i.imgur.com/9zmQAt8.jpg ETA: When I click on Convert Now, ...

Re: Vanguard Advertising Mutual Fund to ETF Conversion

Interestingly, it's not showing me that screen anymore when I log in, and it won't come up when I search on "convert mutual fund to ETF" in their search engine. The closest I could find when I searched was a phone number. When I clicked it before, it had a window that let you enter your mutual fund...

Re: Vanguard Advertising Mutual Fund to ETF Conversion

I can't post a link to the page, because it's secure once I log in. Here's a link to the image I see (the forum won't let me embed the image): https://imgur.com/4QF7Daz I don't think it was possible to convert online before, with a phone call was required to convert to ETFs. Where does the link in ...

Re: Vanguard Advertising Mutual Fund to ETF Conversion

If you log on to Vanguard recently, the first thing you see is a screen pushing you to convert certain mutual funds (e.g., VTSAX) to their ETF equivalent (e.g., VTI). They're advertising lower ERs (e.g., .03 vs. .04) for the ETF versions, etc. Other than that, what advantage is there to convert to ...

Re: Vanguard Advertising Mutual Fund to ETF Conversion

I think Vanguard would do itself a favor by being more transparent about what their intentions are. It seems like they try to nudge things in a not-so-subtle way that simply arouses suspicions, rather than just stating the reasons why. For example, with the switch to brokerage accounts, Vanguard wa...

Re: Vanguard Advertising Mutual Fund to ETF Conversion

How do you know they are pushing this rather than them informing you of a potential benefit? It's just how it was framed. For me, they presented me with a pop up that I had to click off of before I was able to proceed to what I wanted to do at that moment (i.e., add another bank account to my accou...

Re: Thoughts on Schwab

I have Schwab (401k, High Yield Checking), Vanguard (Roth IRA), and Marcus/Goldman (High Yield Savings) accounts. I agree with other posts about not keeping everything under one roof. I will also echo Schwab's excellent customer service in my experience. It's relatively minor, but I like Vanguard's ...

Re: Rollover IRA with Schwab, any reason to switch to Vanguard?

Schwab is what my company uses for our 401k. I also have a Roth IRA with Vanguard. I agree with ResearchMed about not keeping all my eggs in one basket. But the reality is that many of the basic index funds (I use ETFs) across companies are almost identical. e.g., SCHB (ER = 0.03), VTI (ER = .04). I...

Re: What is your AA, given your age? and, Why?

Age 38.

Just reallocated to 85/15 (from 95/5). Funds are simply Total US Market and Total US Bond Market.

We're expecting our first child, and as you might imagine, that is associated with many considerations toward being more careful, including AA.
