Yes, I bonds do have a higher yield, but unlike TIPS, you cannot buy them in tax-advantaged accounts.
My understanding is I-bond earnings don't have to be reported until redemption, so they are inherently tax-deferred (and possibly tax-exempt if used to fund a 529).

[Bonds] are simply not capable of falling with stocks minus a few exceptions because bonds are not risky enough to fall that much. While correct, I think this statement might be misleading. The magnitudes don't need to match for correlation to exist. If bonds fell 1% every time stocks fell 10% they...
