Re: Are we being too conservative for our retirement?

balance. My wife has been diagnosed with a nasty cancer in her early 60's before she even retired. I wish we had traveled more in the past 5 years once our youngest was out of college.

Re: Carry on or Take your toys and go home ?

Stay with your IPS allocation, or maybe get a little more conservative.. You need to exceed inflation, or you're going backwards. I doubt the 80/20 allocation will do that. I just retired at in my early 60's, but need my portfolio to last 30 more years.

Re: As a 30 year old with extremely high risk tolerance should I even be holding bonds any more or should I go 100% stoc

I was 100% stocks until age 55, 80/20 until age 60. My wife & I got through the 2008 downturn just fine. I was able to retire at age 62. However, as i look back, we had very little defensive "rainy day funds". I HATE to sell an asset, any asset, at a depressed price. I now think I should have held 1...

Re: Cash allocation after retirement...

I just retired at age 62. Our portfolio is 10% cash, 30% ST fixed, and 60% equities. I will not draw SSA until my FRA, maybe later. I never want to sell any asset, including bonds, at a depressed price. Even fixed prices fluctuate. So quarterly I move some fixed to cash when prices are stable. I kee...

Re: Are 55+ Communities a Baby Boomer Thing Only? If so, who will buy when Boomers want to sell?

I have three observations: 1 - My wife and I enjoy being around children, "the cycle of life", so to speak. 2 - We shopped a 55+ community where we loved the floorplans. But then we ran into a couple who said their parents bought into one, and it was fun for 10 years, but much less so when everyone ...

Re: Family man who misses driving a fun car

I not an engineer, just a car nut. My understanding is that electric motors give full torque at 100 rpm. There no gas motor on the planet that can compete with that. Gas motors will die off quickly once battery life and enough charging station infrastructure issues are solved.

Re: Family man who misses driving a fun car

My suggestions : #1 Mazda CX-5 with the optional engine (2 row SUV); Mazda CX-9 3 row SUV; #3 (car) CPO Audi A4 quattro. Good luck! john

Re: Calling Volvo and Audi owners! Reliabilty questions

I currently own two Audi's, a 2005 A4 1.8T quattro with 160k and a 2012 A5 cabriolet 2.0T quattro with 62k. I read a lot about cars and consider myself an enthusiast. If you want cheap and reliable, buy a Subaru or Toyota . My wife drives a 2011 Subaru Outback with 195k and we spend little on mainte...
