The saga ended. Amex refunded the money they charged me again the same day, did not even wait for vendor to get back to them. From what I can read it was a charge back (??). I called and spoke to an agent just to be sure. Phew, done, I put a block on the vendor for any future charges. Lesson learned...

You have 60 days to dispute, so need to be in too much hurry to go that route. If I'm not mistaken, timing becomes a little different when you're dealing with services. E.g. The business refunded my money on 11/9
on 11/8 they charged me the same amount again,
I just got off the phone with amex, I put a block on them for any future charges.

Thursday I disputed the charge with amex, spoke to rep on phone to explain that it was a prepayment and no good/services have been exchanged.
Sunday morning, I was refunded the $$$ with a sob story that the owner was out of town, hence the delay.
Lesson learned, never again.

Done, I did an online dispute then called Amex to make sure I did it correctly.
Yes, I sent the vendor an email asking for the status of the refund. I did ask 2x already for the refund in emails.
