Re: Capital One 360 shaking up savings accounts

We have a Capital One 360 Money Market account that I use to hold 6-12 months of living expenses, with monthly transfers to our checking account at a brick and mortar bank. I have an ATM card for the Money Market account that I can use if we ever need some quick emergency cash. It looks like the ne...

Re: Capital One 360 shaking up savings accounts

Interesting. Thanks for the info. May be worth a look around at other options. Has anyone heard of Brio Direct? They’re mentioned on a few different websites currently at a 2.45% APY, FDIC insured. I didn’t see any other threads mentioning it. https://www.briodirectbanking.com/ https://www.doctorofc...

Re: Advice on Real Estate Sale Strategy

All great points and feedback, thank you. There have been a few more issues that have come up in wading through all of this and it’s feeling more and more like my mom should just put the property on the open market. We will consult with her attorney and accountant, and others if needed but this seem...

Re: Advice on Real Estate Sale Strategy

I dont understand why you and your husband get any "profit" out of this deal? Profit may not be the right word here. My father wanted to gift the proceeds to us. Call it whatever you will. We have no intention of staying in the home long term. When he was alive, his cost basis would have been lower...

Advice on Real Estate Sale Strategy

Hi Boglehead community, I’m looking for a gut check to see if I missed anything regarding the sale of my parents’ investment property. My father bought an investment property in 2007 for $380k. It had been a strong rental property but needs a large amount of TLC, and he and my mom had planned to sel...

Re: Looking to move to 3 Fund AA - Advice Needed

Thank you all for your advice. I’m definitely looking at moving taxable funds into VTSAX and VTIAX. My cost basis method right now for those taxable funds are average cost. I started investing in them in August of 2011 so most of the shares are covered shares. For the 2011 shares that are non covere...

Re: 403b Supplemental Retirement Annuity Plan?

Hmmm...I just logged in to my vanguard account and it lists each plan separately, with a separate balance. There are also separate summary plan descriptions and I do have to elect separate contribution percentages for the matching and supplemental plans, so from what I can see, they are in fact sepa...

Great thank you! Sounds like it’s a safe option for my extra retirement contributions beyond my match.

403b Supplemental Retirement Annuity Plan?

Hello most awesome and knowledgeable bogleheads, I posted a few weeks ago and got some great advice regarding my asset allocation so I’m back with a question regarding one of my retirement account options. The university I work for provides employees with 3 403b retirement options, of which I can pa...

Re: Looking to move to 3 Fund AA - Advice Needed

Thanks Living Free. I’m not opposed to putting more in stocks. I had read the recommendation of holding your age in bonds. I appreciate that with a pension we can probably afford to be a little more aggressive if we want to. For the Roth, am I understanding your recommendation that stocks are fine b...

Looking to move to 3 Fund AA - Advice Needed

We are looking for some advice on getting our retirement accounts into shape. I have been passively investing money into accounts since my early 20s but only recently stumbled upon Bogleheads. We are recent newlyweds so are only just starting to look at both of our investments as a total portfolio. ...
