Re: Financial/career and life advice requested

I've learned an AA you can feel comfortable with is very important. I see yours and would only wanr, you will need growth with an expected long life span. So don't shortchange the Stocks. I think there is a psychological component here (many have gone through) and I think you have the time and resou...

Re: Which Mortgage would you need?

We would leave a deposit of about 50%, then pay the loan off when we sell our current house. That is quite a bump up in house! Do you have the downpayment in cash equivalents? Otherwise you need to consider the tax impact of liquidating investments. Here is my cautionary tale: Well before the finan...

Which Mortgage would you need?

Here is our situation. We own a home outright. We are looking to buy a new home for about $350k more than the equity of our current home. We dont see that it will be too difficult to sell our current home as the market is strong here. I want to take the proceeds of the sale of our home and then pay ...

Re: “Upsizing” are we foolish?

I would look to see if there are items you could upgrade in your home. It would be a lot cheaper and may suit your needs. The housing market is pricy again. Of course, if you want to get out of the neighborhood that is another matter altogether. Just be sure you're moving somewhere you would like. I...

Do Portfolio Reviews still occur here?

Is it just me or are there less and less portfolio reviews being commented on by bogleheads? I know it may get a little redundant after a while, but is there a way or area (wiki) where all the portfolio reviews can be found with certain situations (i.e. income, # family members) ? Or is my best bet ...

How do I find a "Reputable" advisor?

I am a big boglehead fan, have invested according to the principles of low cost index funds, proper asset allocation, and staying the course. However, I need some in person financial advice at this point in my life. I neither have the time nor energy to research endlessly and frankly, I dont know wh...

Re: Boeing-time to buy?

All kidding aside, if this thread is so troublesome maybe a policy needs to be stated that individual stock advice is not allowed. Maybe there already is one to which I am not aware.

I’m sorry I ever asked!

Re: Boeing-time to buy?

[Moved into this thread from Boeing-time to buy? , see below --admin LadyGeek] Unfortunately I fear this thread will Be locked. Not my intention. I believe in the overall boglehead philosophy and almost 97% of my funds are in low cost index funds. I respect those who differ and pledge total devotio...

Time to buy Boeing?

For a small portion of my portfolio I like to buy and hold some long term stocks. Based on the terrible news of an Ethiopian Plane crash, it seems very likely Boeing has a significant issue with their new 737 MAX. It is conjecture on this incident, but other incidents point to an anti stall automate...

Re: Life and financial Advice please

Thanks for all the feedback. I guess the annuity idea is based on the fear we are at an all time high and Id rather have a secure return to cover until medicare. But you certainly have me thinking about the numbers to it. I recently read jonathan Clements book and he seems to be very favorable on an...

Life and financial Advice please

Bogleheads: DW and I are in a somewhat unique situation and are seeking advice. My job is going away (being sold) and likely will leave me on the outside looking in. There is no payoff for being there or severance. Spouse is also facing the same situation by eoy. We both have good management backgro...
