You have to look at it from different angles. The bank savings account is an FDIC insured account. The Vanguard Money market funds are not FDIC and thus are somewhat higher risk and thus yield to compensate for the risk. Technically the funds could declare a capital gain distribution but in review of historical payouts it appears to be very rare.

As a follow up, when I compared the 6s, 7, and 8, I was surprised that the processor and camera improved by a small amount with each option. Other than that there were really no differences.

We just upgraded our iPhone to a 7 and it works well. The other phone will be upgraded to an 8 in time. We have always stayed a cycle or two behind and the cost difference is material over time.

Simple: buying and selling individual stocks for many years thinking we had an edge and were smarter than other investors.

Moving to Vanguard was the best financial decision we ever made.

If you are a follower of Vanguard/Bogle methodology, you should care very much about what Vanguard thinks. It appears that Vanguard is disagreeing a bit with their founder. We invested in Vanguard Total Bond Index many years ago and it has done the job of providing safety and income to the investment portfolio. This is our sleep well at night fund.

In my opinion trying to select the best bond fund is basically dancing on the head of a needle.

Taking human psychology into account, the three-fund portfolio should be tweaked to a "three-fund plus" strategy. i.e. take 95% of your portfolio and do the BH thing of three-fund portfolio. The other 5%, invest in whatever fancies your mind. TIPS, commodities, REITS, Individual stocks, IPO's. etc....
