Re: Newer water well issues

What did the well driller say? Remember that it's their bread and butter though, so their answers can be expensive. We had iron issues in a well- back washing frequently helped more but it was only a basic iron filter system without chlorine. Not sure why NOT back washing would fix the filtration pr...

Re: Quality Power-Tool Brands

Dewalt 20V BRUSHLESS cordless. I have had great luck with my Dewalt sets over the years and these are the bomb. If you are a do it yourself weekend warrior, you will never regret this. I asked this on Fine Homebuilders and Green Home advisor and they recommended the Dewalt 20V brushless or Milwakee....

Re: Alta, UT Goldminer's Daughter or Peruvian?

It would cover either of those but with Peruvian it would not cover my parking/hotels on the way out and back. If the Peruvian is worth the extra $ I can afford to cover the rest.

Alta, UT Goldminer's Daughter or Peruvian?

I have a conference at Alta in Feb. SOOO expensive to stay (not so frugal- but it's covered by my job)

Goldminer's Daughter or Peruvian? Online the reviews point to Peruvian but it's almost $400 more for the same time period and they seem to be very similar. THANKS!

Reliable Restaurant review sites for travel

What restaurant review sites do you use for travel? I have uses Trip advisor and Yelp in the past but I've been pretty burnt on some with 'great' reviews and some great local spots seem to get left out.

Re: What work to expect in an hour from construction

No real 'contract' was signed on this particular job, in this area- that is what is expected. The remodel jobs here often end up extensive due to the poor construction (I really didn't think this house was one of those- but too late now) and NO ONE will 'bid' jobs. I am going to talk to him tomorrow...

What work to expect in an hour from construction

I posted this on FHB forums and no one is commenting so I'll ask my fellow attempted frugals: What should I expect from my construction crew? My money pit is really turning into a money pit. My contractor charges by person per hour for their services. My neighbors stopped by my house a few times tod...

Any experience with EBB to minisplits upgrade? [Electric BaseBoard]

We’re planning to upgrade the HVAC in our new to us money pit from electric baseboard to minisplits. Has anyone done this? What were your savings? Any advice? The system estimates are 15k for everything but the basement to 72k (not using that one! Trying to settle between the 36k entire house or the...

Re: Best small AWD to 'drive into the ground'

I live in West Virginia. My daily drive to work from my farm is 29 miles with some being curvy rural and 25 being highway (which gets super hinky in the winter). I ski and mtn bike so we chase the snow (heck yeah-24”- I’m in!!!) and drive on really bad roads. Toyota Highlander WENT great in the snow...

Best small AWD to 'drive into the ground'

I'm looking for which good winter handling awd I can drive 'into the ground' with the longest life/least maintenance and best gas mileage (holy grail). My son's 2012 outback was just hit and totaled at college and I'm trying to decide what to either replace it with or get myself another car and give...

Experience with Passive building?

We live in a 4 season very humid climate and are planning on building. Does anyone have experience with passive buildings/ performance building? Suggested heating/cooling? House will be 1700-2000 plus basement and garage.
THANKS!

Re: On demand electric water heater

To clarify- my current unit has thrown the breaker a few times recently (we come back and it's off). It's been pretty random of when it happens and I am worried it is going to fail.

On demand electric water heater

We are thinking of replacing the standard electric water heater in our second (we are there on average 3-4 days a week) home with a tankless electric water heater. Has anyone had experience with them? The current tank is actually not large enough to fill the spa tub to above the jets (how crazy is t...
