Re: Share your net worth progression

What is an above average net worth to have at 30, 35, and 40? Assuming you're married, and both have good careers.

Re: Can we really afford $1.25M house?

I'm curious what do you do to be making $250k + $250k bonus at 32? I'm pulling in $100-115k at 30 and feel like a peasant, lol.

Balance Transfer question

I opened a wells fargo propel american express card and it says that the intro APR for balance transfers is 0% for 12 months. It also says that balance transfers made within 120 days qualify for this intro rate. Does that mean that if I make a balance transfer 3 months from now, I will still get 12 ...

Re: Need Advice - quit 6-figure job to do coding school?

At the Bay Area tech company I work for, there is no distinction between coming in with a BS or an MS -- without experience either would come in at the junior SWE level. A PhD gets you a bump into the "normal SWE" level. Salaries are pretty consistent among SWEs at the same level. Your best chance ...

Re: Need advice coming out of bad situation

Hahaha... I think you just made Comhaltas's and my points for us, OP. "Humble"? Ok, if you say so. SoAnyway.... I'm still confused on both the commuting issue, and why (given your stated position and goals) you're not accelerating your plan to simply pursue your wealthy wife-to-be? :confused Not at...

Re: Need advice coming out of bad situation

What does your monthly expenses and cash flow look like? Paycheck: $4700 after max 401k deduction & insurance. $5250 if I only put 10% in 401k, as I do now. Phone, Gym, Spotify - $165 Rent & Utilities - $1800 Food & Misc - $300 Student Loan - $790 Credit Cards - $250 Monthly Savings = $1395 if maxi...

Re: Need advice coming out of bad situation

OP, have you considered moving your marriage plans forward? If you complete this before March and choose a wealthy wife with a paid off home, it will eliminate both the need to save for a home down payment and borrowing from your 401K, plus eliminate your monthly rent payments. This will allow you ...

Re: Need advice coming out of bad situation

Tugofpease A quote from original post “1) I want to switch careers within either 15 months, or 27 months. Reason being that my lease expires at the end of March each year. ” You are going to change careers because your lease runs out? What happens if you get a flat tire? :) Your belief in being ext...

Re: Need advice coming out of bad situation

I commend you for paying down the amount you have on your student loans! Great job! Also, am I reading correctly, you are working part-time basically, but your salary has increased around $35,000? If you are working 20+ hours per week, would you be able to pick up a side gig that would help you to ...

Re: Need advice coming out of bad situation

L 1) I want to switch careers within either 15 months, or 27 months. Reason being that my lease expires at the end of March each year. 3) I want enough liquidity to put down half of a $100k down payment on a house - I am strongly considering taking from my 401k to make that happen. I think between ...

Re: Need advice coming out of bad situation

Two thoughts: Do you have enough money to pay off the credit card today in a bank account? That seems like a ticking time bomb if you run out of 0% offers. Are you also aware some employers make you pay off the 401K loan immediately upon leaving the company or it counts as a taxable distribution an...

Need advice coming out of bad situation

Long story short, I graduated 7 years ago with $186k debt for an electrical engineering degree from a top university. I was making $61k 2 months out of school, paying $1100 interest/month on my loan. I received no breaks - had to get my own apartment, had to buy a car, etc, all on debt. The timeline...
