Re: Apple TV vs Competitors
I've had them all at some point and time. I like the Roku because you can search for something (TV show, Movie) and it searches across all the apps (Netflix, Prime, etc.) rather than having to go app by app to find something.

Re: Seller's agent not letting us use a buyer's agent
I think everyone is missing the point here. This whole situation stinks and is more common than you think. However, if I am the homeowner and I find out about this, I am ticked off in a major way. The goal of the seller's agent is to produce offers for the seller to consider. It is not trying to get...

Re: Invited to join HOA board. Pros/cons?
Those that serve on HOA boards fit several profiles. The first profile is the lawyer/wannabe lawyer that wants to make legal pronouncements on every matter brought before the board. Good chance this lawyer/wannabe lawyer hasn't even read the documents governing the community. Another type is the ag...

Re: Florida Panhandle recommendations
The snowbirds are primarily from the Midwest and Canada. As a native NYer, that's music to my ears. (joking people, native to upstate New York lol) No comment...but I will say while the volume of tourists in the spring and summer cause traffic issues, the snowbirds cause totally different traffic h...

Re: Florida Panhandle recommendations
The off season (November - February) is very quiet. Mainly Snowbirds and Locals. Spring Breakers do not show up en masse until March/April depending on the timing of the various school spring breaks and Easter. You can generally tell when that is by looking at rental rates and when they increase. Th...

Re: Real Estate Negotiation Came to a Halt
Your agent failed to manage expectations of everyone involved. Your agent should have said the offer will come in the low 800s, rather than 800s. While the difference is only semantics, I think it would have avoided wasting everyone's time as the seller would have said to not even bother making an o...

Re: Products for DIY car detailing
I know this isn't necessarily Bogle-friendly as they are a little pricey but I have had excellent success with Adam's Polishes products. They have great how-to videos as well on their website and youtube.

Re: Long commute: how to manage?
I had a similar commute where a large stretch was highway. Here is what I did to pass the time: 1) Podcasts 2) Audiobooks 3) Catch up on phone calls (with Bluetooth) The phone calls made the time pass-by the fastest. I could make/return work phone calls that didn't require a computer/desk for the ca...

Re: Your pick for a lawn edger
Love the Ego edger (and all Ego lawn tools). Sold by Home Depot. We have a relatively small yard and have the Ego edger, mower, blower, and weed eater. Love all of them. The edger was the last one purchased and I bought it without the battery since I had the other three. Saved about $100. No more g...

Re: Take the cash or the free dinner?
I would definitely get a beginning time and an ending time. A dinner has a fairly clear beginning and end. I can't imagine sitting through one of those talks wondering how much longer is it going to last.

Re: When does the power of compounding interest really kick in?
I disagree with using the term compounding interest when discussing the investment in stocks. Investments in stocks do not have compound interest. They do not pay interest like a savings account and it is very dangerous to think otherwise. I completely agree. The only "compounding" that c...

Re: How do YOU make coffee?
Keurig unit, using a reusable basket so there is no plastic/garbage/waste issues, filled with the ground beans of choice. The choice varies and we'll buy better grades of coffee often. +1 and daughter works at Starbucks so she (we) gets a free pound of coffee every week. A pound lasts a little more...

Re: HOA wants to install speed bumps that my car won't clear
Someone mentioned it earlier but fire departments are generally against speed bumps. Sometimes they are okay with them if there is a gap between them that is the same width as the fire truck. In other words, two gaps so the fired truck go through them without slowing down. I'd push the life safety a...

Re: Is Hyundai the value sweet spot?
If you're buying new and keeping the vehicle for 10 years/ 100k miles, the Hyunda/Kia powertrain warranty covers you. If you're buying used, no. It drops to 5 years/60k miles. Exceptions: Hyundai and Kia Although Hyundai and Kia are well known for offering the best powertrain warranties in the indu...

Re: Buying house with son [and his girlfriend]
There are just two much better options. 1) gift them the money 2) buy the house, let them “rent to own” You don’t want to do 1) because you want control. You don’t want to do 2) because they aren’t beholden to you (no “skin in the game”) So you’ve developed an incredibly subprime way of accomplishi...

Re: Buying house with son [and his girlfriend]
I think it is a wonderful gesture on your part even though there are a bunch of risks. Obviously a lot going on here but if you are going to do it, here are some thoughts/suggestions. 1) Write in the agreement that you have the option (not the obligation) to buy out the son and gf for the amount of ...

Re: MBA vs real estate license vs both?
My general rule of thumb is that if you are going to stay in the same industry, it does not really matter what MBA school you attend. If you are going to change careers, you need to go to a highly respected school. FWIW, I attended a top 10 MBA school because I was changing careers. Essentially you ...
