Help with tax lost harvesting today - international etf

Good morning - I’m new to TLH and would appreciate any advice of the group. I sold Vanguard Total International Stock Market index (VTIAX) a couple of weeks ago (at a slight loss) and purchased IXUS (I shares Total International ETF). I would like to take advantage of a down market today and sell IX...

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I'll continue to just hold VTSAX at Vanguard and keep my auto investing going. It's probably best to leave well enough alone.

Re: Convert VTSAX to ETF (VTI)-good idea?

There is not a pressing reason to convert. I've just heard that there are advantages to the ETF over the mutual fund. It might not be worth the hassle.

Convert VTSAX to ETF (VTI)-good idea?

Good morning - I was planning to convert my VTSAX (Vanguard Total Stock) mutual fund to its ETF equivalent (VTI). Before I pull the trigger, is there any good reason why I should NOT do this? The only slightly annoying this is that I will not be able to continue my auto investing every two weeks - I...

Re: Visiting NYC with a family - logistics?

Stick with Manhattan. I personally prefer lower Manhattan (near Wall St). It’s less crazy and you’re close to Wall St, World Trade Center, Battery, Park, etc. You can walk across the Brooklyn Bridge too. Midtown is also good. I definitely would NOT rent a car. Parking prices are ridiculous and traff...

Re: When to tax loss harvest?

I have a follow up question to my original post on tax loss harvesting. I sold VTIAX (Vanguard Total international) and bought IXUS on 5 FEB. Re: Tax loss harvesting: VTIAX to VXUS?

Be sure to skip auto-invest in VTIAX in the 30-days after you sell at a loss. Plus be sure to sell the shares purchased in the previous 30 days, too. Otherwise, you gots yourself a wash sale. It is trivial at Vanguard.com to uncheck the couple of future auto-invest dates that would create a wash sa...

I’m 44 years old and I have 10% bonds all in my 401k. FWIW, Vanguard 2040 has 17% bonds and my plan is to get closer to that. I am using that target date retirement has a general rule of thumb.

Re: Asset Allocation - put all bonds in my 401k?

Thanks - just to clarify - if I put all of my TSP in the G fund, it would only be about 10% of my assets... so I would need to put money from my 401k into Bonds to bring my AA to 15-20%. Hence, I’d have to split the bonds between the two accounts - assuming that is the right move.
