Re: Employer plan at Ed Jones

Would love to hear feedback on whether or not TDA seems to be a good choice. I used TDA for a SIMPLE IRA about 15 years ago in a similar situation where I didn't want to use the same custodian as the rest of the company. Everything worked great for me, the company (employer) just sent a check out e...

Re: Employer plan at Ed Jones

I think TDA will be fine for your SIMPLE IRA account. They have a reputation for providing good service. Congratulations and Best Wishes! I admire you and your employer’s patience and perseverance. :D I’ve been looking over the EJ SIMPLE IRA Packet that contains information for both the employer an...

Re: Employer plan at Ed Jones

Ok guys ...I believe we made a nice break through today.. So first I got a reply back from Vanguard advising that they weren’t able to do what we were trying to accomplish. I’m pretty sure this was incorrect, as I had been told previously by a Vanguard rep, and have seen on here that it IS possible....

Re: Employer plan at Ed Jones

Still can’t believe this is still being held up and not going as it should. Seems like it should be so simple but it’s turned out to be quite a nightmare ... No doubt this is frustrating, but it appears you will get what you want in the end, even if it is not at Fidelity. Many people do not. You ac...

Re: Employer plan at Ed Jones

Make sure you take the time to thank your boss for all his time and patience during this information investigation, and you appreciate the fact that he truly has yours and your coworkers' best interest at heart. You’re right to point this out. Not every boss would be this patient and helpful. He is...

Re: Employer plan at Ed Jones

I think your boss is being quite accommodating. Not everything is always optimal, and people have different motivations in their decisions. It sounds like you have cost your boss alot of time and energy on this. You are contributing 3% to get a 3% match, so max 6% of your income. Let's be go on the...

Re: Employer plan at Ed Jones

But if your reading is correct, why does Fidelity think they can only use 5305????? A few years ago, Vanguard told me that they chose not to offer a Form 5304 SIMPLE. That's still their preference because that's what they include in their Employer's Kit. I think Fidelity chooses to offer only the F...

Re: Employer plan at Ed Jones

Thanks for the input guys. Update: as expected the EJ rep called my employer today and explained to him the concerns he had and that what we were trying to do was improper. My boss then called Fidelity and spoke the rep I’ve been working with. He pointed out the concerns about signing the plan adopt...

Re: Employer plan at Ed Jones

The intent of a Form 5304 is to allow employees to choose their FI. The employer could have more than two FI’s where they send their employees' contributions. A FI (Fidelity) must establish that the employer is establishing a valid SIMPLE IRA with them, and that is done using the forms that the FI ...

Re: Employer plan at Ed Jones

He is saying that if I found a FI that did the 5304, we would not have to go thru any of this and be able to just have me set up an account and employer sent contributions without having to set up a “master account.” How about doing this? Here are a few high-quality brokerages to contact to see if ...

Thanks guys!

I got a response back from a local advisor at Fidelity. He suggested we get a Fidelity IRA specialist on the phone to make sure we do everything correctly. He said he would help facilitate the call, so I plan on contacting him and knocking that out sometime next week.

Mm8719, I hope the outcome of OP Perkunas 's efforts won't influence your decision on getting out of the EJ SIMPLE IRA. This thread and your original thread contain all the information you need to proceed: https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=269470&p=4316027#p4316027 You can transf...

This is good news. I'm not sure this was supposed to happen before January, but I would not rock the boat on this myself. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I think I'll just let it roll. :D Now to dive into the EJ to Vanguard transfer! Hey @A_Bond I was looking through your thread and just had a...

This is a long shot, but OP did you ever switch over your simple IRA from EJ? I am looking to do the same thing. I want to switch it to either Fidelity or Schwab. I looked into this a couple years back but then my advisor at Ed Jones talked me into staying by putting me in a better plan which had no...

Re: Life insurance

Captive companies like Amica and State Farm are not going to have competitive rates with a history of sleep apnea. They are very conservative with their underwriting. Somehow I missed the OPs part about sleep apnea...You are probably correct. Although a lot of the questions were in the last 5 years...

Re: Return of Premium Term Life Insurance

Thanks for the replies. You guys bring up valid points. I got additional quotes for what it'd be for just regular term. For a 20 year 500k term it's $330 a year. For $250k 20 year it's $220 a year. I'm getting a quote from another company currently that is showing $280 a year for $500k if I get thei...

Re: Return of Premium Term Life Insurance

You would be signing up for 30 years of premium payments when you may only need about 20. The return of premium gimmick becomes a hook to keep you paying after you no longer need the insurance. Miss a payment along the way and the numbers look awful. I really don't see missing a payment being an is...

Return of Premium Term Life Insurance

As the subject suggests, I'm looking into purchasing life insurance. I realize return of Premium gets a bad rap, but hear me out... I've actually already got a policy that I purchased a couple years back. It is a 30 year term for 250k, $640 a year, return of Premium which ends up being about $19k at...

So I assume everyone will at least be presented the opt...

Employer plan at Ed Jones

About a year ago I left my prior employer (very large corporation) to join a small family run organization. The switch has been a blessing for me and my family, although there is one issue that is a bit of a negative. My new employer has a Simple IRA plan through Edward Jones. When I left my prior e...
