Re: Why would Ortho push for Invisalign? (non-medical question)

Traditional braces are more labor intensive for the dentist, whereas the outside lab handles much of the work with Invisalign. I never had braces as a kid and opted for traditional braces about 5 years ago. Once I got use to them, they were fine. I think traditional braces have come a long way over ...

Re: New Car Fund

Great ideas! I didn’t think too much about the possibility of it being stolen/wrecked and maybe needing about a replacement sooner.

Yes, the car is paid in full.

New Car Fund

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice. I just got a new car over the summer, so I’m hoping to keep it at least 10 years. I want to start putting money away for a replacement in 10 years or so, but I’m not sure where to put those funds. Should I invest them, put into a savings account, or possibly...

Re: Setting up Joint/Individual Accounts with Spouse

Thanks everyone! I gave up BofA and we opened up free accounts at another bank. Problem solved 😀

Re: Paris - Is It Safe?

Husband and I are looking to go in May as well. I’m not too concerned about the protests. We went to Athens during the protests and we didn’t see any of them. Here’s my problem...we want to go to London, then take the train over to Paris. With all of the Brexit drama lately, it looks like there have...

Credit Rebuilding Advice

We’re trying to rebuild my husband’s credit. He’s had two Capital One credit cards which he’s been paying in full and on time each month, but we realized they’re not being reported to the credit bureaus. He’s called Capital One and keeps getting the run around and being told they they’ll report, but...

Re: Setting up Joint/Individual Accounts with Spouse

I like the idea of individual accounts. I’m way more OCD and frugal about money than my husband, so I’d rather not see how much he spends on drive thru runs, personal care stuff, etc. He’ll have his budgeted money and can spend it how he wants, without me critiquing all the time.

Re: Setting up Joint/Individual Accounts with Spouse

I do like the convenience of BofA. They’re located all over and I’ve had a good experience with them. I do tend to use my credit card for most purchases, but I’d prefer to keep checking, just so I’m not limited to 6 withdrawals per month.

Re: Setting up Joint/Individual Accounts with Spouse

We could split the direct deposits among the accounts, but prefer not to do that. The individual accounts will be used for everyday stuff, like coffee runs, lunches out and personal items. We wouldn’t keep a large enough minimum daily balance to avoid the fees. I know the money would be better spent...

Setting up Joint/Individual Accounts with Spouse

Hi fellow Bogleheads! I know this topic is already out there, but I haven't a slightly different question. My husband and I currently have two individual checking accounts. We would like to open up a joint account, into which all of our direct deposits will go. We then want to keep our individual ac...

Rental Properties

Hi fellow Boggleheads. My husband and I are looking to buy our first home and are considering a two family so that we can bring in some rental income. I’m just looking for some general advice on what to look for or be aware of/what to avoid from those that have owned rental properties.

Thanks!

Re: Investing in Taxable Account

Thanks, this forum has such an array of helpful info! I’m using Schwab right now. I’ll definitely go in and change to spec id. You should read this thread about the difficulty of trying to change your cost basis to specific identification of shares of mutual funds in a Schwab brokerage account. The...

Investing in Taxable Account

I will be setting up automatic investments into my taxable account in the next few weeks. I am planning on setting up bi-monthly investments. If I want to use specific id when selling investments down the road, are bi-monthly investments too frequent? Will this make it difficult in determining cost ...
