Re: Help!! The 4% SWR in real life....

Thank you all for your advice. A few nice nuggets posted by a few of you, which I will read and ponder on. To add a bit more context..... In laws : all funds in IRA and not that much, ages low to mid 70s, so I think roughly 4% is fine as 30 years should be plenty. No Roth or taxable. They also have ...

Re: Messed Up Wash Sale?

Tried my hand at TLH, but may have not dotted all the i's. Didn't realized that was automatically buy VTSAX on 2/28 (auto bank buy) Yep, this happened to me as well a few years back. I honestly had a bit of a hard time fully understanding it. One of the changes I made, is I automatically invest mon...

Help!! The 4% SWR in real life....

Hi, I’m a fairly knowledgeable investor in my mid 40s, doing most of the right things (solid e-fund, no bad debt, broad index investing, maxing retirement accounts, 529 etc) I have read many of the famous books, and read more blogs and websites than I care to mention. I have been helping my parents ...

Personal Capital glitch

Hi all, I have a question that I hope some other boglehead can shed some light onto. With the interest of seeing the "view from above", I recently opened a Personal Capital account so my wife and I can enter all our accounts and see our combined holdings, allocation, etc with the idea to b...

Re: TLH within my Taxable account [Tax Loss Harvesting]

Livesfot, Thank you so much. Now that you capitalized "WHEN", I think I finally understand. I was thinking the 61 days window was around the purchase date of the tax lot in question being sold for a loss, when I now see it's set at the sale date instead. That helps a lot! I did read some o...

Re: TLH within my Taxable account [Tax Loss Harvesting]

[/quote] If you had purchased a lot on every single trading day this year, you could sell them all and would not have a wash sale as long as you don't buy back into the fund in the 30 days after the sale. There's a 61-day window around the tax loss harvesting date in which you can't have any replace...

Re: TLH within my Taxable account [Tax Loss Harvesting]

Thanks for the reply livesoft. I had learned #4 below the hard way years ago, and knew #1 and also #3 (although that only works if you are selling the last lot purchased, so stopping or delaying the next investment would work. I didn't quite know #2 and it makes sense. I rarely sell from this accoun...

TLH within my Taxable account [Tax Loss Harvesting]

Hi there, I am a fairly sophisticated investor but I am kind of new at TLH, and thus I have a question I hope someone here can help clarify. So I have a taxable account with Vanguard in which I invest in a couple of tax efficient funds (namely VTSAX, VDADX, VTMFX) as well as some muni bond funds. I ...
