Re: Should I buy a new BMW X3?
I have a 2005 X3 (bought new in 11/04) with 156,000 miles and my wife has a 2016 X3 with 70K miles. These cars are built like a tank and have been relatively inexpensive to maintain. Yes, a brake job with rotors will cost you something like $1,200 but I got 94,000 miles from my original brakes and a...

Re: What is the best concert you ever witnessed?
Watkins Glen in 1973. We got there a day early, camped offsite in the rain, then headed for the concert site the next day. Had a full day in the sun, still no concert, which would start tomorrow. We were about 60 yards from the stage. Set down to go to sleep at about 11:00 PM when there was some com...

Re: [What TV Show Have You Recently Watched?]
There are plenty of "edgy" dystopian dramas you can watch until your soul collapses, but there's only one Heartland. A lot of people on this thread can't seem to find anything they really enjoy watching, so my post is for them, not you. Thanks for letting us know how cool you are.

Re: [Netflix:] Can We Talk About Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness?
Why not watch Heartland on Netflix? It's a Canadian show that's full of excitement with realistic stories, tons of humor, romance and wonder - not crazy dystopian madness like Tiger King. People will still be watching it in 50 years, long after Tiger King is gone. You have to watch the first 3 (not ...

Re: [What TV Show Have You Recently Watched?]
JBTX, You're right about Heartland. The 2 guys who liked Amy were about 19 and Amy was 15 when the show begins. In real life, the actress who plays Amy was 18 at the time and the 2 guys were 20 (if that makes you feel any better). I guess you take what you can get when you live in the middle of nowh...

Re: [What TV Show Have You Recently Watched?]
Manatee, Please give Heartland a try and give us a full report! They have manly men and strong values throughout. It's about people trying to survive on a 600 acre horse ranch in Alberta, Canada after the lead character's mother dies trying to rescue a horse called Spartan for her. It's the show tha...

Re: [What TV Show Have You Recently Watched?]
Why is everyone hooked on these dystopian, end-of-world-type shows? Why kill your own soul? You have the best TV show ever made available on Netflix and Amazon. It's called Heartland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npBIDMSGDKg

Re: VPW Question
Thanks, Longinvest. You are the Boglehead I most wanted to hear from as I learn a lot from your posts. Still, there appears to be a problem (with the spreadsheet or my brain - not sure which). With a portfolio starting value of $1,560,000 the "Suggested for 2019 Annual Portfolio Withdrawal"...

VPW Question
I downloaded the VPW Retirement Income spreadsheet and am confused. At my age (63), I expected to be able to take a 4.8% portfolio withdrawal yet the spreadsheet makes an additional calculation that adjusts for a -25% downturn in my portfolio value (50/50 S/B allocation) and says to take that reduce...

Re: [What TV Show Have You Recently Watched?]
Hollywood loves making dark, dystopian, end-of-days "entertainment" these days. Why is this stuff entertaining? I have gotten about 20 people to watch a gem called Heartland (on Netflix, Prime and Hulu). It is the longest running show in Canadian Broadcasting Company history, currently go...

Re: [What TV Show Have You Recently Watched?]
The best show I've ever seen is Heartland (currently on Netflix). It's a "family" show but don't let that deter you. It has more beauty, humor, drama, romance and adventure than any other show I've ever seen. You have to watch the first three 45 minute episodes to get hooked, but, if you d...

I would highly recommend buying used Usher Be-718 speakers. You can get them for a good price now. Best speakers I've ever owned. They like 100W+. Here's a review:

Re: [What TV Show Have You Recently Watched?]
If you can live without dystopian drama and just want to watch a tremendous family show, watch Heartland. It is the best TV show I've ever seen and, if you like it, there are 11 seasons (187 shows) to catch up on. Here's a review: https://wwhan12.wordpress.com/2016/04/04/heartland-is-television-at-i...
