Re: Electric shavers - foil vs rotary

I have used both foil and rotary and I have had a better shaving experience with the foil. For me, rotary doesn't get as close of a shave and it really irritates my neck unless I use some kind of preshave.

The one advantage to rotary, however, is that they are much quieter than foil shavers.

Re: Convince Me

Re-balancing your portfolio yourself helps scratch an itch many (most?) people have to tinker around with their portfolio when the markets fluctuate. 1 fund = no scratching I tried 100% stocks for a few years, nothing exciting happened during that period but I ultimately decided I needed a re-balan...

Re: Mouse invasion!

We get mice every winter, here's a few things we've learned. - There's NEVER just one mouse. - Use snap traps but setup 2 right next to each other. They try to climb over the one to get to the other one - We bait ours with peanut butter and then embed a piece of dog food in the peanut butter. - Put ...

Re: HEDGEFUNDIE's excellent adventure [risk parity strategy using 3x leveraged ETFs]

Why “must” the returns due to leverage be arbitraged away in the long term? How long have ordinary Americans been leveraging their real estate holdings? Has that been arbitraged away? I started to reply with "but adding leverage to real estate increases risk, whereas the risk parity strategy doesn'...

Re: HEDGEFUNDIE's excellent adventure [risk parity strategy using 3x leveraged ETFs]

I've been following this thread since the beginning and I have no doubt that this strategy would have worked in the past and will probably continue to work into the near future. What I can't wrap my head around is why this would work long term? The stock market grows because of inflation and the gro...

Re: de-googling my life: Keep Notes alternatives

I used Evernote for years because of its web clipper. I've recently switched to OneNote and I believe the most recent version of its web clipper has surpassed Evernote's. Give it a try.

Re: Getting Ready for Windows 10

This will be a HP computer so what bloatware will it be safe to get rid of, and are there any special conditions I need to be aware of when doing it? Depending on how "clean" you want your system, you might consider just nuking the system out of the box with a clean install of Win 10. That is what ...

Re: Should I encourage my kids to work in high school/college?

The way my wife and I look at it, you have your whole life to work. You only get one chance to have the high school experience. We feel as long as they're involved in extra curriculars and experiencing high school, we're more than happy to give them a stipend so they can still go out with their frie...

Re: Anyone use Treasury Direct ?

Just a little PSA. Using chrome or firefox (probably other browsers also), you can right click on the password field and select 'inspect'. This will bring up the HTML for that field. Look for the following string: readonly="readonly" Double click on it and then delete the entire string (not just aft...

Re: Where to buy a movie (Amazon/Google/iTunes/PS)?

I regularly check https://slickdeals.net/deals/digital-download/ for deals. Vudu has good "bundle" deals if you like buying trilogies or series. Mostly I buy from Amazon and Vudu. I also use MoviesAnywhere (when I can).

Are you left clicking the link or right clicking and selecting "Save link as..."? If you're right clicking, try just left clicking on the link.

Re: First “financial” thing you do in the morning

I'm a YNAB user (youneedabudget) so the first thing I do every morning is reconcile my checking/savings/cc accounts. I don't use the auto transaction import feature so I have to keep on top of entering all the transactions otherwise it gets out of control fast.

Do I have to inform anyone when starting an SEPP?

I'm considering starting an SEPP from an IRA at Vanguard. I've done the research and read the information over at 72t.net. I've recorded my assumptions and saved off my month end statement. Do I have to inform the IRS or Vanguard that I'm starting an SEPP before I request a distribution? Or do I jus...

529, withdraw full amount but make payments

I've got some personal loans I'd like to pay off and I was wondering if, starting in January, I could withdraw the full amount for the rest of the school year from my kids' 529 plans. I'd then use that money to pay off the loans while continuing to make the monthly payments I already have setup with...
