I compare it to the team that got the lead during game and is trying to preserve the lead during the last few minutes of the game. They try to preserve the lead instead of adding to it.

IMO. I would add the lead as the game is not over till you are gone.

Re: The Boglehead is anti-entrepreneur?

I agree that there is probabbly a tilt to being anti-entrepreneur.

It appears that a lot have pensions (which in itself screams employee not entrepreneur), I have witnessed quite a bit of advise dissuading posters to not take risk with a bussiness.

The exception are those BH’s on the higher end of the NW spectrum, appear to have have amassed their NW from the sale of the their business.

Most bussiness owners while still working do not have time to watch and post on this forum on the other are a lot of young BHs who work for Megacorps that are very active.

To each their own but there is a definite bias.

Yes I have travelled to the jungle several times, and yes I have travelled with armed guards for work as made our way across the globe with expensive equipment. Hiring local guards is always cheaper then hiring an ex-pat outfit. Granted locals are not as professional as an ex-pat outfit, costs are fraction.

When I was 20 I always said, once I have $2M I would retire. Once I turned 30 I moved that number to $3M, Once I reached $3M, I learned about SORR, LTC, longevity etc. and realized I would not be comfortable with the new number. Point being, we do not know how much knowledge the survey takers posses to make an informed decision. They could be just like my 20 year old self pulling a number out of thin air.

I was always a lump sum proponent, until last year, I had a large sum to invest but decided to DCA it. I decided on 12 months of DCA. After the second month of DCA, we had the December drop, that is when I lump summed the rest. I supposed it could have dropped even further from the december lows or the markets could have had a large gain. One never knows, do what feels right.

Wished to retire at age 45 but rental RE collapsed and I had to work another 10 years till I had enough NW to feel comfortable. So finally retired at 55. Twenty years later my NW has gone up around 6x from the day I retired. I notice that many sober, conservative investor friends tend to be more nervous than is warranted. In retrospect I could probably have retired at 45 and fared well. It's much easier to cut out expensive luxuries during post retirement than during your working life (so what if your little used cars are 8 and 12 years old...), when almost every expense appears "necessary and unavoidable". msk, Just curious, do you use an ultra low withdrawal rate and are you primarily invested in other things like (RE)? I think not .. I hold PIMIX for income and it has produced nearly twice the income of those other funds ... more than making up for any paper loss .... it just blows them out of the water when you take the income .
Unfortunately not.

Disruption about to happen in the utilities sector. Of course, where it will all end up is anyone's guess, but utilities are no longer "bulletproof" for sure. This from Bill McKibben's excellent essay on energy from the latest issue of The New York Review of Books: Over the last decade, there has been a staggering fall in the price of solar and wind power, and of the lithium-ion batteries used to store energy. This has led to rapid expansion of these technologies, even though they are still used much less than fossil fuels: in 2017, for instance, sun and wind produced just 6 percent of the world’s electric supply, but they made up 45 percent of the growth in supply, and the cost of sun and wind power continues to fall by about 20...

Re: Zero-Turn Mowers

I have a John Deere 930 and also have a Gravely XT HD (Ariens which is the parent company has a similar model) which is more of a prosumer model.

The JD930 is nice with the air ride seat and a tweels(never have a flat again) but it is a speedy machine. The gravely is good value.

The transmissions are the key to these machines. Some use a low grade transmission (no filter) and the higher up the line you go the better the transmissions.

The Boglehead way is one way to reach your objective, there are many other methods that work. As you state, she has “won the game” doing something that works for her. Its her money let her be.

Ycharts equivalent

Does any one know of a Ycharts equivalent that is free to use?

I am interested in plotting a stock price vs. its dividend increase.

TIA.
