Re: Should I abandon the Total International Stock Index Fund for greener pastures?

Many are questioning International for the reasons you mentioned (myself included) but I am staying course for the reasons posters above have mentioned: Int'l provides Diversification and low correlation. Total US Index has been beaten Int'l lately but what about future years. Seems like selling now...

Re: 11-year old with iPhone - advice on how best to manage?

We have a 10 year old who also badly wants a cell phone. We are holding out. Too much problems with phones. Cyber bullying worries me the most. Our small community has lost kids to suicide from this.

Re: Is My Tax Preparer Responsible for Mistakes?

You are likely responsible. The CPA will say they just used the information you gave them. Read your contract but I bet it says in the case of an audit, they would be willing to provide explanation to the IRS at an hourly rate billed to you.

Re: Welp, Backdoor Roth surprise!

Would be a red flag for me. If they are otherwise good, I would consider keeping the CPA if they are willing to learn about backdoor Roth IRAs. Might make we worry about what else they don't know.

Re: Tax mistake

Sounds like a scam. Maybe call the IRS directly (find phone number on IRS.gov not on the letter "they" sent). They did target a bunch of doctors last year and filed false returns.

Re: Help picking funds for 457(b) plan

Try including the expense ratios on those funds.
What is your stock/bond %?
US/international %?

Re: US Large Value or Int'l Small for the long term

Thanks for all the info so far.
I have corrected my earlier post. I have US Small Value (not blend)

25% US Total
25% Int'l Total
10% REIT
10% US Small Value
10% Int'l Small (Blend) rather than Large Value ?

20% Intermediate Bonds

Re: US Large Value or Int'l Small for the long term

My portfolio is: 25% US Total 25% Int'l Total 10% REIT 10% US Small Value 20% Intermediate Bonds (Looking for last 10% as either small int'l or large value). I initially had Large Value after reading: All about Asset Allocation by Richard Ferri, The Four Pillars of Investing by William Bernstein. Bu...

Re: Help Choose: No REIT or Int'l Small options in 403B

gobigrad , welcome to the forum. Desired Asset allocation: 80% stocks (25% US, 25% Intl, 10% REIT, 10% US Small Cap, 10% Intl Small), 20% bonds That's unnecessarily complicated and will make rebalancing more difficult. I put your list in the below example, but I recommend you drop the two small cap...

Re: Help Choose: No REIT or Int'l Small options in 403B

Welcome. I would push pause for a bit. You do not need every type of fund in every account. You are buying the same things over and over and over. It is too complicated. Your portfolio is one enitiy. Optimize for tax efficiency, diversity and a minimum of complexity. You will thank yourself down th...
