Surely this is an innocent oversight and not part of a ploy to hide the fact that index funds consistently and substantially outperform actively managed funds beyond the 10 years?
op

If you add up all your contributions and divide the time (years) with balance or compound interest calculator you can figure out your average annual return.

I used SSA income data, along with the 457/IRA contribution rates and came up with 7.5% for the last 34 years.

You’d have to determine if paying the Part B lifetime penalty is worth it to avoid IRMAA until you hit 68 and retire.
Are you sure this is definitively true? If so, this answers my question. I’ll need to go on Medicare, with Part B, at 65, because the penalty will make my overall cost more expensive over the long run.

The question is how exposed these smaller regional banks are vs. SVB. Reading up about it, it seems like most did not make the assumptions that SVB did with assuming 10 year treasuries had 0% risk. Yes, banking could see a drawdown for sure due to heightened risk, but I think it's too early to say this will be some systemic crisis. So far it seems isolated to a pretty niche area of the banking sector. Not exactly sure, and don’t think it matters- shows as regular income on the w2. The amount was a bit under 10k. After standard deduction his AGI would be zero. Can he still max his IRA in this situation? He does have some SSDI and pension income. Not huge but does carry his AGI higher, but I was curious of the answer in both situations. Zero pension and a high pension pushing AGI higher. Based on prior threads on this topic, my recollection is that the amount in Box 1 of the W2 is the guiding number. If that box shows "a bit under $10k" then a contribution to an IRA would likely be permissi...

Re: Vanguard seems selective in sending confirmations of transactions

“Order status” shows no open orders. “Confirmations” shows no confirmations for the transactions in question (below). “Transaction history” shows that the two separate purchases from the external bank into the settlement fund went through fine. :confused Do you have evidence that is an email confirmation an order was placed? I assume the funds are still in your Settlement account? Yes, in each case I got an email (“Notice of transaction submission”) as soon as the order was placed. Just no confirmation (“Your brokerage transaction confirmation is ready”) a day or two later that it had executed (as I get normally when buying a T-Bill/MF from the settlement account). I am not sure, that would be a question for a tax person or someone in this comment section that may know about that. I do know that I haven't sold it prior to a year, so short terms gain is not an option, which is good (I think).

Thank you!

Re: Portfolio question for my retired Mother.

Op

What about health care? I assume she is on ACA when you mentioned "marketplace".

I assume she is on Medicare or Medicaid? The later has look back period depending on your state’s rule for eligibility.

Is she eligible for food stamps?

Has she looked into government subsidized housing for seniors?

Re: Vanguard Customer Service Mega-thread

For a couple of years, I have received several letters from Vanguard stating that they were unable to email me. Since I received email from Vanguard regularly, I shredded the letters and chalked it up to a glitch in their system. Last week, I received another letter about being unable to contact me via email on the same day that I received an email confirming a transaction that I had made with my brokerage account. I called Vanguard to determine what the heck was going on. Of course, I had to go through the call menu. When I stated that I was calling about a Profile issue, I was immediately connected to a representative. I explained why I had called. He checked out my profile and discovered that there were 3 email addresses listed in my pr...
