What is the advantage of ibonds vs other inflation protected securities?

I am trying to understand the options protect against the rise of inflation (if it ever happens). I have a couple of questions: 1. Is there any advantage (besides obvious ER expenses) of investing in ibonds or TIPS vs investing into a some vanguard inflation protected mutual fund, like VIPSX? 2. Why...

so 529 may hurt chances for financial aid.
What about scholarships (merit)? Does a 529 also makes one less likely to get a merit scholarship?

Dash cam without wires

I want to use a dash camera in my car but i dont want to deal with wiring all the way to the 12V outlet. I could not find a battery only camera that does not require to be plugged in. I wouldn't mind recharging the battery every couple of days. Does anyone own a camera like that? My intention of usi...

Re: New 2019 RAV4 is now out - looks good

Just bought an 2019 LE AWD RAV4 after test driving its competitors. We test drove the CVT (2.4 engine, w/o oil dillution issue) and the Mazda CX-5. DW liked the Toyota the best. I negotiated the price with various dealers and pit them against one another by trying to get them to "do better". Love t...

Smoke detectors

I have a couple of questions about maintenance of smoke detectors and would appreciate some help. This is for hardwired smoke detectors (powered by electricity). 1. How do you go about changing the backup batteries for a smoke detector in a room when it is located 12 feet high? Is there any gadget/t...

Can someone who owns a 2.4L CRV confirm if the problem is really present there? I am still planning to buy one of those but the info here is not clear about the 2.4L.
Thanks

Anyone from Maryland? How property tax affects MD taxes

I am trying to understand if you get any credit for Maryland state taxes from the property taxes you paid. I paid about 10K in MD property taxes and it did not make any change in my MD taxes due when I entered this data on Turbotax. Anyone from Maryland knows how it works? Is there a credit cut off ...

Let TT decide what forms.
Agreed. The problem is that TT keeps reporting errors, like I did not inform if it is a SSTB business, and other stuff when I run the check. Annoying. I just want to report the damn 200.

Re: How to report $200 income without 1099 MISC on turbotax

Can I do schedule C instead of C-EZ?
I dont know the difference but turbotax created a schedule C based on the info I entered (maybe because i do not have the 1099 misc).
I just want to report the $200 and pay the taxes that I owe. I dont care if I need to pay a few dollars more or less.

How to report $200 income without 1099 MISC on turbotax

I received $200 from a freelance job without 1099 misc. I have a regular job with W2 that puts me in the 33% tax bracket.
How do i report the 200 on turbotax?
Do I put it under "miscelaneous income section" in turbotax
or
under the "business items / business income" section?

DW has 401K at Fidelity w/ brokerage link. Never have received a 1099. This is the first year I see it as well and it is only available in their website. Look under statements and you might see it. They say it is only available in PDF format, differently than my taxable fidelity brokerage account. ...

it is a consolidated 1099 with all relevant fields populated (even distinguishing between qualified vs ordinary div). There was no taxable transaction as far as I know. Received 1099 for 401K brokerage account and confused now

My company’s 401K allows me to open a brokerage account (besides the funds that are available in the 401K itself) so that I can invest in whatever I want. I am considering buying VAIPX in my Roth IRA as a form to protect from inflation. I do not want to buy TIPS because it is a limited amount per year, another account to manage, etc.

How do you compare owning TIPS vs an inflation protected bond fund like VAIPX?

If i retire to a State that has no state taxes, I wont pay any state taxes on my RMDs and long term capital gain that I exercise after moving to that state. Is that correct? If so, how long do I need to live in the state to be considered a resident and pay no state taxes on RMDs/capital gain?
