Re: Any Tips for "Splitting" Finances in Married Couples?

+10 for splitwise. It's MUCH better than a shared account as tracked expenses "net out". You can even split things unequally and have someone pay 60% vs 40% to account for the uneven income. Re: Any Reason To Not Payoff Student Loan?

There was a great podcast (link below) on the federal student loan forgiveness program and all the erroneous denials. The full podcast is worth a listen but the synopsis is "Lots of people got hurt on technicalities assuming the loan would be forgiven, but they government finally acknowledged it and...

Re: What frugal thing did you do today?

I took all the sugar packets at my booth in the diner today. And the bottle of steak sauce too. That's not being frugal--that's being a thief. I think (or hope) that the sugar packet and steak sauce post was a comment on the previous post about saving money by not tipping the Uber driver, saying bo...

Re: Zero federal tax. Will this cause an audit?

I'm 36 and I've already received a number of "correspondence audits", maybe 3 or 4 in my lifetime. In the most recent example, I make a large fourth quarter estimated tax payment with the intent of intentionally overpaying my federal income taxes and generating a refund and using that refund to pur...

They don't seem to be in downtown Chicago. I tried to register and the app told me they're not in my area yet.

Re: Fidelity HSA - Account Closed (Risk Department)

Not only can financial institutions close your account for "suspected suspicious activity" as others have said above - but there are specific laws and regulations which very clearly state that you cannot tell the customer why you closed the account - especially around anti-money laundering laws. Whe...

Re: Credit card question - get Uber's new 4%er?

For the uber card, how accurately does it categorize foreign restaurants and hotels to be eligible for bonus? Especially smaller ones. Also if you use a website like hotels.com to book a hotel, do you still get a bonus? So - I work for Discover - specifically their rewards system the last several y...

Re: Need investment advise for 7 figure portfolio

As my first kids is going to college in 4 years, I have saved 160K for that and have them in a 2% CD. Any better investment suggestion than CD as CD return will be taxed based upon my high Tax bracket.
Sounds like a good case for a tax exempt municipal bond fund.
