Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

Does this help? Posting images in the Bogleheads forum Note that you can upload the file to Google Drive. If you get stuck, post the shareable link here and I'll fix the format. FYI - The maximum image size is 1200px X 1200px (each side). I’ll give it another try sometime. I’ve already been to how ...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

Old news, but I find the parallels to the CRV oil dilution issue rather interesting. This one involved the opposite problem of oil getting into the combustion chamber of the V-6 with cylinder deactivation. Just as with the CRV, Honda mislead and denied and never issued a recall even though there we...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

Motor Trend just named the CR-V #1 compact SUV again (the newly redesigned 2019 RAV4 came in fourth out of eight). I bought my 2018 CR-V new last year and have been following this thread trying to decide what I should do. My oil reads about a half quart high every 5000 miles or so. No other symptom...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

I have a question. How does the oil get diluted, where is it coming from? Would be interested to see if anyone has identified is. Read the first post in this thread. It will answer your questions. Ok from the first post "Apparently, fuel is getting into the oil crankcase and causing problems such a...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

I bought a new CRV EXL in Nov 2017. Got it about 125 miles from home to dodge the worthless dealer option scam and the next morning just had to check it out. Found the oil level way over full. I’m a retired vehicle technician, 12 years in a dealership and 26 at FedEx. Dropped the panel and drained ...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

I've kind of never been of the opinion that 87 is sufficient for all of these modern high specific output (ie high power levels from small displacement) engines running turbochargers despite the manufacturers saying it is ok. GM was using, maybe still does, the "premium recommended not required" ca...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

We know that all engines use a rich mixture when they are cold. Put an eye on heavy load conditions say, a loaded up CRV against a strong wind or uphill, after warm up. I wonder if the air fuel ratio would dip way below 14.6:1 as the CVT tends to keep the rpm low and put the engine in the LSPI regi...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

If it is LSPI (low speed pre-igition, AKA the super knock found in turbo DI engines), it cannot be stopped by retarding the ignition timing since it is really not ignited by spark. the pre-ignition is caused by glowing particles left floating inside the cylinders at the intake cycle. One counter me...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

The CRV has a plate underneath that has to be removed to gain access to the area where the oil filter and crankcase drain hole are located. I wonder if you can see if there is a rear seal leak without removing that plate? I looked under there and can't see where the rear of the crankcase is, so it ...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

No symptoms. Just an incidental finding along with the diluted oil. The rear main seal keeps oil sealed inside the rear of the engine, where the crankshaft connects with the transmission. So I wonder if oil that is severely diluted with fuel might have a detrimental effect on the seal and bring abo...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

Maybe it’s the warmer weather that’s helping but I don’t think so. One sure thing is time will tell. Ever which way it goes this winter I’ll post my findings.

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

Sorry, I didn’t answer all the questions. I live in the Piedmont region of NC. I’d say winters 20s-30s at nights and 40s-50s days. No cold idling, unheated
garage kept and maybe a little hot idling if it’s hot. Summers are 80s-90s and usually muggy.

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

The CRV was bought 11/2017, the 1 quart drain/fill was done 4/4/18 at 3600 miles when the level increased 1/8 inch pass the mark I had scribed on the dipstick. The full oil change was done 5/6/18 at 5112 miles. I’d say for this area is was a cold winter. Normal daily driving with about 4 beach trips...

Re: My 2017 CRV is a victim of the dreaded oil gas-dilution issue

It’s been interesting messing with this fuel dilution in my CRV and glad it’s manageable on my end while Honda works on a fix. I do love the CRV and want it to live a long happy life. I think it’s going to be a hard pill to swallow for Honda to change the fuel requirements after marketing this vehic...
