We got a late start - as other posters shared state tax benefits are a consideration. We are in a very conservative portfolio since he is a senior. Still worth doing.

Re: Elder care tax question(s)

Might be a good idea to consult with an elder law attorney - they often pair with CPAs who can address tax considerations.

Re: What purchase saved you the most money?

By percentage of cost to savings: 1. Online drivers safety course. GA state law mandates a 10% premium reduction if all drivers 50+ on a policy complete such a course. Reduction carries over several years. AARP course had a buy one get one for $10. Total about $40. We have an 18 year old son on our ...

Re: NYC weekend house: your experiences?

Hard part is when kids get older. If they have school-connected activities like sports, clubs or even birthday parties, it's hard to get away.

We have a house in the 'burbs and just bought a small condo in the city (ATL), with a plan to use part time now and move in later as empty nesters.

Re: What is your stealth way to save monthly?

Advice been around forever but it works for me. Every raise I receive I increase my 401K contribution by that percentage. Take home stays about the same, so out of sight out of mind. Also, biweekly pay cycle = biweekly budget. I find it a lot easier to allocate my day to day when it ties closely to ...

Re: Ladies: bra shopping question

I have had great luck shopping at the Hanes outlet. They own a number of brands and have a far greater range if sizes in stock than typical retailers. Put of the thousands of bras in stock, chances are good that you'll find something you like.

Hope this helps!

The good: excellent schools 80+ miles of paved golf cart paths - you can get around town just fine via golf cart Reasonable housing prices - your money will go a lot further down her Good design and infrastructure - planned...
