How many years are you away from the time when you will need to have a building on the land to live in (full-time residence)?
I would aim to get something very basic established within a couple of years (think tiny house), then over a longer period (10 years?) build something more permanent.

Re: Cash-in investments to buy land?

Wouldn't a long term hotel rental be cheaper in between contracts? I personally wouldn't buy land. The land you buy could lose value, you will lose liquidity, and your growth potential will be devastated. I would buy a home only if I knew I would spend huge amounts of time there or needed a place t...

Cash-in investments to buy land?

Hi, I live and work internationally, so my accommodation is paid for when I am on contract (most of the time), but I have no base to call my own. I am contemplating buying a piece of land that I can gradually build a permanent base on. This could be a base when I am between contracts or when I event...

Is it wrong to have too many funds?

Hi all, My main question is this: Is it detrimental in any way to have investments spread across too many funds? For career reasons I have worked in a number of different countries, and I foresee this continuing. Due to the practicalities and range of investment options open to me in each country, m...

Re-balancing question

Hi all, I have landed on my preferred asset allocation (both between stocks and bonds and between different funds within the stock portion of my portfolio), but I am a little unsure about how best to re-balance. Rather than periodically selling and buying within my portfolio to re-balance, does it w...

Re: What to do with individuals stocks?

Thanks all for the great feedback. I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your thoughts and share your expertise. A little bit of additional relevant information: My stocks are invested in a tax-advantaged account which enables me to sell and buy within the account without being taxed. I...

Do you want to overweight Value stock?
Yes, I was thinking of over-weighting slightly towards value and small caps. I guess you don't like this idea?

What to do with individuals stocks?

Hi everyone, I have a dilemma that I’d like to get your thoughts on. Part of my portfolio is in individual stocks. I know, I know naughty me. These are the legacy of a different time in my life before I became convinced of the value of index funds. I now have a portfolio mostly made up of index fund...

Re: Post Your Morningstar Box Style

Thanks Lady Geek, I will do that.

When looking at my funds only, my box style looks like this:

22 - 27 - 19
7 - 7 - 6
4 - 3 - 3

Re: Post Your Morningstar Box Style

Thank you LadygGeek, I really appreciate your help (and the help of others on this forum!) I am relatively new to this (I am sure this is obvious when looking at my box style). I won't go into all of the personal details, but I started late, and only recently really became (or are becoming) financia...

Thank you Ladygeek and Livesoft. Most helpful

It appears that my allocation looks like this:

7 - 15 - 6
10 - 2 -2
22 - 6 - 29

Any thoughts on this are welcome!

Re: How to build a passive portfolio in Norway?

I am investing through DNB. They offer 375 different funds, although many of these are high-cost actively managed funds which can be ignored. In addition to the funds mentioned above, I will shortly be adding KLP Aksjeglobal Lavbeta 1, which tracks value stocks. I think that these four funds should ...

Re: How to build a passive portfolio in Norway?

Hei! Strange, I replied to this post earlier, but it disappeared. Not sure what happened. I have built a passive portfolio in Norway, after many mistakes with active investing. I am still relatively new to this and I am sure there are people here who can answer better, but here's my portfolio: 60% -...
