Re: What are "one-off costs" for Vanguard ETFs? (UK)

I wish I had read this yesterday. This morning I traded in a Vanguard ETF, my first time purchasing and ETF and wasnt aware that there was a bid/offer spread until the deal went through. This is a big drawback that is not commonly highlighted in comparing ETF and mutual funds (not that I seen anywa...

Re: 72 Year Old Retiree (UK)

That seems a solid base but possibly rather cash heavy. What's her aim and time horizon here?

Supplement existing pension if its low or gets reduced?
Living the high life for a few golden years?
Bequests?
Rainy day/care home fund?

Re: fund size query

300m is absolutely fine. Check the performance numbers vs benchmarks for each to see which is doing a better job.

The risk with small (no cutoff but <$100m) ETFs is they get shutdown triggering a forced sale.

Re: Validity of international factor investing

You've regressed against US factor data, not international.

Is there a good international regression tool?

There very good if you believe in the factors (after trading costs). Here's the construction guide for the Vanguard US factor products. The global products seems to follow the same from what I've read and portfolio appearance. There's only unclear bit is region/country constraints. https://advisors....

Re: Vanguard New Factor Funds Portfolio Statistics

It doesn't look like it's currency hedged. I couldn't find the prospectus, but nothing on the fund's main page mentions anything about currency hedging. Vanguard international developed factor funds exist. They're available in Europe for 0.22%, although not multi factor unfortunately. Country weigh...

Re: Vanguard New Factor Funds Portfolio Statistics

Vanguard international developed factor funds exist. They're available in Europe for 0.22%, although not multi factor unfortunately. Country weighing is weird and a black box. No country varies by more than a few percent on an absolute global weight basis so the US is always dominating at the 60% ma...

Re: Vanguard New Factor Funds Portfolio Statistics

One relatively recent paper is "Liquidity as an Investment Style" by Ibbotson et al. (2013, with a 2016 update). Liquidity should be given equal standing to size, value/growth, and momentum as an investment style. Liquidity, as measured by stock turnover, is an economically significant indicator of...
