Re: have I been targeted for identify theft?
I have this exact same scenario with my e-mail address. I've even become pen-pals with an Irish veterinarian because his e-mail address is just one letter off from mine. He goes only lovely vacations, treats horses, and uses Sky for his TV provider. Anyone can type any e-mail address in a form. It o...

Re: Smoke Detector Battery Life
The detectors will beep if the battery gets too low before your next routine replacement. Of course. However, I do not want to be awakened at 3:00 AM and then have to get the step ladder from the garage and change 5 batteries on high ceilings while half asleep. If I can schedule the battery replace...

I bought about $2000 worth of Lucent stock in 1997. Finally donated it to charity a few years ago - it was worth less than $100 at that point.
Lesson learned.

Re: 2021 IRS inflation adjustments announced
Somewhat offtopic, but I just learned from the linked IRS document that there is a special tax on arrow shafts ($0.53 per shaft). My mind is blown for today. I was curious, so I looked it up. The excise tax is collected by the IRS and provided to "state wildlife agencies for habitat restoratio...

Re: Costco Appliances
We bought a stove/microwave package from Costo. They installed the microwave with no issues. They needed to find a "certified" installer for the gas stove. After about 2 weeks of waiting, we hired our own local guy to install it and Costco reimbursed us. Despite the minor hiccup with the g...

Re: Anyone Have A Solo Stove?
Dear friends, Just pulled the trigger on a Solo Stove and had a few questions: 1. Can we use it on our composite deck? 2. Do you recommend the shield to prevent embers from blowing out? We have 2 little ones. 3. How do you like it? Anything to watch out for? Thanks in advance. 1) You can buy a stan...

Non engineer Project Manager here making 100k before commissions. With commission I was making 200k but commission was recently eliminated by my company (I'm in the oil and gas sector, land department, so my easy transitions would be utilities and renewable energy). Re: Fire Pits: Solo Stove vs. Breeo
We have the Solo Stove, I think it's the Bonfire size. Burns very hot, little smoke, and almost no ash at the end. I would say the heat is more vertical than horizontal, so you may sit a little closer than expected. We have it on our deck, works great. worried about the deck too. we have Azec/Trex ...

Re: Weighted Vest for Exercise
I bought the 12 lbs Aduro Sport Weighted Vest for my son in January, he seems to like it. I've used it a few times, I like that it fits tightly and can be used for a variety of activities. Looks like Amazon only has the 4 and 6 lbs vests in stock, but they have vests up to 30lbs. https://www.amazon....

Re: "With summer camps canceled, IRS relaxes rules on flexible spending accounts"
I read this article this morning as well, and I'm a little confused. My understanding is that all the FSA money is available as soon as the year starts, regardless of how much the employee has contributed. With this rule change, it seems like I could halt contributions now and just spend the entire...

Reached out to my current lender about possible refi, he said that VA requires a drop of 0.5% before you are eligible to refinance on the IRRRL (streamlined VA refinance). My son has never owned a car and is living in a different state from my family. I would agree with extending your trip. Australia is basically as big as America, and getting to Uluru takes a lot of time. We skipped it and did Sydney/Port Douglas instead.

Neighbors sump pump pipe on my property

No regrets. My wife and I were advised to buy whole life from our financial adviser, they were super expensive.
Eventually canceled these policies, bought 30 year level term, and never looked back.

Re: Prepaid car maintence -- Mazda -- HCOL
I'd be shocked if any new Mazda required over $1000 in maintenance in the first 3 years, especially at such low yearly mileage. We own a Mazda 3 and a CX-9 (both 2 years old with low miles) and have very low maintenance costs. Just oil changes, filter changes, and tire rotations. Ok, the Mazda 3 bat...
