Re: ordering from Whole Foods via Amazon

Just received my first Amazon/Whole Foods delivery at 8AM this Sunday morning. No invitation needed. Ordered 13 items on Friday morning. Selected the 8AM to 10AM Sunday free delivery window....there was no shipping availability on Friday or Saturday. At 5:30 AM received text messages that 6 of the items were not available. (They were all in stock on Friday). I had the option this morning to cancel the item or accept a substitution. If I accepted all subs my invoice would go from $65 to approx. $110. I declined all the subs, My new invoice came to $12 including a $5 tip(optional),,,,,they honored $10 first timer discount...even though total was under $50. This was a crazy grocery shopping weekend. So I would say this was a positive experienc...

Read the reviews on Amazon on Google WiFi. Covers my house (3 floors) - +2500 sq. ft. at over 80mbps everywhere.
Really took just minutes to install.

It is expensive for 3 units, but solves the problem.

Try West Chester and Kennett Square. Also Newark...lots of small startups in Newark with the University..check UD job listings.

Also try the Banks in Wilmington...lots of IT opportunities. DuPont and AstraZeneca mostly outsource their IT...may want to look if Cognizant or Accenture have local opportunities.

I have a regular sump pump as my primary and my backup works off the water pressure...no backup battery to ever worry about.
I do check the floats, etc. at least once per year.

Only once needed to rely on backup and worked like a charm. It is a little more expensive.

Re: Is it ever a good idea to make retirement date known?

I told my bosses 3 years before I retired.

Reasons:
1. For each year's raise, management had the option to either give a raise or just cash. The cash was always larger than what one or two years raise would be. And staying only 3 years, who needs the annuity effect.

2. In an environment with layoffs, it actually protected me from being laid off before I wanted to retire, management was always looking for employees who raised their hand when reductions of force came about. In the third year, I spared someone else from losing their job.

3. I was very comfortable in my current position and did not want anymore promotions.

Not an expert on Term Life Insurance, but $6000 per year for a $1,000,000 seems high by ten-fold. Since it only has 5 years left...policy may have been taken out 15-20 years ago. I would find out more about the policy. Paying $6000 a year on the bet that her ex dies within 5 years does not seem like the winning side of the bet.

How much Social Security would she have on her own account, not ex-husbands? Is it more than she is getting now?

Comments on recent posts:
Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace. A very depressing read. Well researched and written. This is the problem with non-fiction, sometimes the story does not go the way you want it to.

All The Light We Cannot See - Well written. Liked it tons more than the Book Thief. May recommend it to my book group.

Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania -- Now if you really want to get depressed...Larson provides a minute by minute, second by second accounting. Non-Fiction, but the author makes the story very dramatic.

Re: Netflix DVD delivery slowdown?

My Netflix for the past 4 weeks has definitely speeded up... when I send a DVD back, it gets scanned at my local Postal Outlet ....before shipped....and they immediately send my next DVD. I even get 2-3 emails that the Post Office Received it and next queued item is being sent, that they received it (a day later) and an email that my next queued item will arrive on a specific date.

I can easily do 2 DVDs a week.

All The Light We Cannot See -- really liked this book. Even better than the Book Thief.

Station Eleven -- not a big sci fi fan, but not a bad read....but it clued me into my next read...

The Martian -- Liked first 50% of the book. Actually all of it...no spoilers, but the plot.... 1. hopeless situation 2. Solve the issue. 3. Return to step 1. Repeat this 1000 times.

Dead Wake - The Crossing of the Lusitania --- by Erik Larson... (In the Garden of Beasts, Thunderstruck, Devil in the White City, etc.)
only 20% in. In typical Erik Larson fashion he sure does write a good novel!!!

Check with a lawyer. Not sure the $1 dollar sales gets the current owner out of future liability. Back in the 80's the oil companies were unloading stations to their owners for a buck...thinking they were escaping future liability. Not true.

I used to work on LUST... this was joint oil company task force to look at Leaking Underground Storage Tanks. We knew with high probability where the problem tanks were located (duh, unprotected steel, wet soil).

Unfortunately...the house does not need to rig the wheel, spins are independent...they make their money on the 0 and 00.

I am northern Delaware (also).

I have the $30 T-Mobile plan... unlimited data at 4G-LTE (3G once you use 5 gig...which is a lot) and unlimited text and 100 minute phone...10 cents per minute after 100.

I purchased Nexus 5 directly from Google. Very pleased with phone and coverage in north Wilmington. Note that T-mobile does not have 4G-LTE in Delaware --- it comes right up to the PA border... but the coverage we have is just as fast.. it always is fast for me.

Note I had Sprint(Virgin Mobile) before and coverage was not so great. Actually VM was very very slow. Like 10 times faster with the Nexus 5 on T-Mobile.
