there is so much more potential in the private sector... bigger salaries, bonuses, stock ownership, etc., as well as growth / learning potential, potential to move around, etc.

Not digging into the math... i would pick private sector over public sector minus 150k over a lifetime.

I would meet with them in person and be prepared with relevant market data and with your lawyers proposed edits to the contract.
I would not have my attorney send the edtis directly, instead use them as points of concession in your negiotiating.

You could also do a salary or mixed model for a year or two to make sure you will have the patient load. And then switch to productivity (all in the initial contract). Good idea... maybe structure it where you have a higher salary years 1-2 then more incentive based... but aim high... that's the st...

I graduated 15 years ago and looking back..

If i had went to a CC then university, I would have missed out on joining a fraternity, making life-long friends, and having an incredible amount of fun.
You learn a lot being "on your own" at 18...

Why not get an MBA and concentrate on accounting. That would give you serious flexibility (and your current employer might pay for it).

I wouldn't co-sign for anyone on anything.

If something happened to your father in law (sudden death, loss of job, disability, etc), you're on the hook for the loan.

Used to have allstate. Switched to Gieco and saved a ton of money. Got my homeowners through them as well (the were the broker there, not the insurer)... again a great price.

There are some strong schools in Boston area for part time MBA (BU, BC, Northeastern, Bently, etc).
I would go that route and have the company pay for it....
Then jump ship.

I just refinanced with Amerisave and it was the easiest transaction I've ever done... and got a nice credit to cover almost all the closing costs. They were by far the cheapest, lowest rate offer I recieved.

I'd say go with them if you're a pretty straight forward borrower (high fico, W2s, etc).

Banks do offer pretty good products and services. For example, online banking, bill-pay, taking pictures of checks to deposit, access to your money anywhere, etc. A 300 balance seems like nothing... they probably want profitible customers... and the sub-300 checking account customer is likely not ve...

Don't buy the super cheap stuff. You're much better off with something from brooks bros, joseph a banks, mens warehouse, etc. than kolhs, walmart, etc.
They might cost more but the look better and last a lot longer.

If you don't have a lot of medical expenses or forsee any in the immediate future, I would consider an HDHP with an HSA.

I would also request a card to be linked to your hsa to make it easy to pay for things.

There is a major difference what someone with a finance career (CPA/CFP) vs someone in a HR role. I would venture to say the finance path would give you more options in the long run... strategy, running a major division, etc. I don't think there are a lot of HR folks that end up in areas other than ...

Sometime when you get a promotion, the potential bonus increases significantly.

For example going from a junior vp, to a vp, to a senior vp... your bonus could increase from 10% to... 25%, 40%.
