Hi, In June of 2018 i opened a Roth account at Vanguard with $3K, then thought why not deduct that amount so i converted it to traditional IRA thinking i should be able to deduct it. What you are considering is called "chasing returns" or "skating to where the puck was". It is not a very effective model for investing. You have to skate to where the puck will be if you ever hope to hit it.

2nd what dbr said. But here it is in picture form. What if you looked at Total international stock index's performance vs. Total US stock index fund over a certain time period, like 10 years...say 1/1/1998-12/31/2007? Cherry picking of course, but you're looking at 10 year returns, so why can't I? ...
