Re: So Are Home Renovations Worth It (Financially) Or Not?

Talk to a realtor in your area for localized advice. In my area, granite countertops and fancy bathroom fixtures are close to a 100% return on investment, whereas swimming pools and new windows are significantly less.

Re: Thin, long lasting athletic socks?

Under armor resistor, I have ran thousands of miles in them, they wear like iron. Side note, never buy socks labeled left and right. They are a major pain in the butt on laundry day.

Re: Neighbor’s contractor wants to access our property

There is a possibility this arrangement could work. When I read the contract posted, the balance of benefit to you (good neighborly relations) compared to the risk (years long legal battle to return your property to "whole" after damage) appears skewed in the contractor's favor. I would involve an a...

Re: 20 AMP Plugs

A 20 amp rated circuit requires a 20 amp receptacle when the receptacle is the only receptacle on the circuit (Reference 2017 NFPA 70 Article 210.21(B)(1)). The code calls this an "individual branch circuit". It is important to realize that receptacles are installed without knowledge of the loads th...

It sounds like they should be sued for impersonating a Scandinavian. :happy The Wikipedia article linked above was edited on March 26th to indicate Norwegian was incorporated in Bermuda. Re: Norwegian Cruise Lines up 42% today

Norwegian is HQed in Miami so bailout money is more likely to be a factor than offshore cruise companies. I'm not sure what you mean by "HQed," but Norwegian is an offshore cruise company, it is incorporated in Bermuda. Here's where three of the largest cruise lines are incorporated: Carnival Corpo...

Re: Runners -Anyone use the old fashion Shoe Goo??

Shoe goo worked great for me on a pair of mizuno's when the heel separated from the wave plate. I have a couple hundred miles on the repair with no issues. I would never skimp on gluing together old, broken down shoes that lack the proper support for your feet.

Re: Gas stabilizer and Covid 19

Modern cars has sealed fuel systems, unlike your lawn mower. Gas can last a long time in an automobile. My Volt hybrid engine sometimes goes three months without running and Chevy explicitly recommends NOT using an type of fuel stabilizer. I would be more concerned with keeping oil seals from drying...

Termidor or Taurus both contain Fipronil as the active ingredient. You can buy it from the Do My Own website. Fipronil is incredibly effective against most ant species.

The Rotring 600 is a fine mechanical pencil. I am not sure how you could wear it out from normal usage. I can not use normal mechanical pencils due to hand pressure breaking the lead.

Re: Updating breaker box from 1970's - AFCI

There are homes out there with knob and tube wiring that are quite functional. Slightly off topic but I agree, knob and tube is not inherently bad and is permitted by the NEC to be maintained and extended. The fact remains that if/when a homeowner wants to sell their property, very few buyers will ...

Re: Updating breaker box from 1970's - AFCI

Your starting point is the local building department code enforcement agency. The electrical system code requirements vary on a state and municipal level. Once that info is in hand, you should determine if you need a permit and if you, as a homeowner, can pull the permit. Be aware, pulling a permit ...

Old San Juan is a fun time for the family. It will be hot, dress accordingly and pack sunscreen. Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo de San Cristóbal are both worth visiting. There will be available shade to cool off at both locations. We walked between them, but you could take public transpo...

Re: Wife’s art, it’s a business (to the IRS) right?

The IRS has a hobby vs. business FAQ: https://www.irs.gov/faqs/small-business-self-employed-other-business/income-expenses/income-expenses . They state that "no one factor alone is decisive". This leads me to believe that, under audit, you should be capable of providing evidence that your business m...

An NP, even a new grad, should have significant leverage to negotiate salary. Demand has outpaced supply in the Midwest. A family friend (NP) negotiated an $85K raise recently. I cant imagine accepting an offer less than $100k to start.

No legitimate contractor is going to tell you how to do their job. Many things in life are easy, as long as you know what your are doing. We pay for the "know what you are doing" part when we hire experts.
