Re: Amica - Auto Policy, only 6 months

There are still quite a few companies that target preferred and ultra-preferred customers that do offer 12 month policies. Hi UALflyer. I know that insurance is regional to some extent, but could you please list a few national carriers that target preferred and ultra-preferred customers? Thanks.

Re: AMEX Platinum Card - Review?

The other hoop that annoys me with AMEX is that you need to pre-select an airline for the $200 incidental credit. I fly several airlines and it's difficult to guess which one I'll accumulate $200 in luggage fees or upgrade charges in a given year.

Re: Cash Back Bonuses - Race to $10k

If you're going to include banking and brokerage bonuses, I think I hit 10k in the past year. Did not sweep all proceeds to a separate account, however. In roughly the order I received them: $2500 e*Trade brokerage $1000 Ally 1% bonus $100 BoA checking $500 BoA premium rewards signup $200 BoA cash r...

Re: Fidelity to $0 Commissions

No. At Vanguard, I can buy an ETF and then sell the necessary amount of the mutual fund to cover the purchase. I do it all the time when I rebalance. Most of my equity investments are ETFs. All of our bond investments are Vanguard mutual funds. Fidelity won't let me do it. Apparently, there is no w...

Re: If all brokerages charged zero commission for trades, which brokerage would you pick?

Fidelity if they started offering bonuses. Etrade is good with bonuses, so I might go with them otherwise, or TDAM. Merrill Edge, I would keep 100K at least to get the highest status for credit cards. Have you looked into whether you might be interested in the Schwab Amex system after their changes...

Re: Considering switch from Vanguard to eTrade...pros, cons and other input?

I performed a similar transfer in-kind to Fidelity. The short version is: - transfer into Fidelity is free - selling is Free - reinvesting dividends is free - buying (adding more money to the mutual fund position) costs $75 per transaction, however, if you arrange for an automatic investment to occ...

I have 25% in SWVXX (1.86%) and 75% in a 3-month 3-bill t-bill ladder (1.89%).
Does Schwab support auto-roll of T-bill's yet? If not, is there a way to stay fully invested in T-bill's without going to cash for 5-6 days in between auctions?

Re: The Final, Definitive Thread on Brokerage Transfer Bonuses

I believe seeing Fidelity transfer bonuses as recently as March this year. So this new policy is around for only a short time. If Fidelity finds that it is not attracting / retaining assets, it might have to reverse this policy. I was in contact with a Fidelity rep concerning a possible transfer. W...

Re: The Final, Definitive Thread on Brokerage Transfer Bonuses

It seems like Fidelity's cash bonuses have all dried up, except for a $3000 bonus for a $5m transfer. I spoke to a rep and he said Fidelity is taking a hard stand on this -- only free trades, no bonuses and no matching competitors' offers. Anyone managed to snag a cash bonus recently form Fidelity?...

I just transferred everything from Vanguard to consolidate at Fidelity. 1) Yes you can transfer VTSAX in kind. I did this then exchanged for FSKAX in my Roth. Not sure if you have taxable funds but that would be a different approach. 2) Yes you can transfer in kind to Fidelity. It will likely be th...

The only one I see without a $100K minimum only yields 1.49%. Not a great option IMO.
Preferred Deposit also has a 100k minimum initial investment (as do the higher yielding MM funds at other institutions like Fidelity), so still an apples-to-apples comparison.

New Merrill Edge cash solutions (possibly?)

I know that the question has been asked many times where to park cash at Merrill Edge. The suggested solutions seem to be either Preferred Deposit or some sort of ultra short-term bond ETF. However, I just stumbled across a "Cash Management Solutions" page in ME under Research / Mutual Funds. Has an...

Re: Schwab as a one stop shop

Convert the Admiral Shares to ETFs at VG Schwab told me on a call that they will accept Admiral Shares and that there is no fee to sell. That may be a better move than converting to ETFs as you will then incur a $4.95 brokerage fee when you sell. You might have to ask Schwab on the specific VG fund...

Without further questioning your motivations, VUSXX is currently a no transaction fee fund at E*Trade. Usually NTF funds at E*Trade have a 90-day short-term redemption fee of $49.99, but I'm not sure about VUSXX since their quote page does not specifically say.

Re: TaxAct 2018 and the Foreign Tax Credit

Total ordinary dividends reported on the 1099-DIV in box 1a include the qualified dividends in box 1b (therefore total ordinary dividends >= qualified dividends). So foreign source ordinary dividends should be $6512.03 and foreign source qualified dividends $5166.56.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely stick with rounding down the allowed wash sale amount to $0. And I will attempt to leave the wash sale adjustment code on the transactions if my tax SW will allow.
