Unclaimed property

This morning my co-worker mentioned that she recently visited the state treasury website and located property that her husband had forgotten about and was able to recover the funds fairly quickly. It reminded me that it has been a number of years since I last checked (since 2012). I was very surpris...

Re: Rent or sell first home

Congrats on the second house! No offense, but it seems a little late to just start considering what you might do with your first home now. If you have had no experience or desire to be a landlord before , why start now? Ideally, with any investment ,you'd want to fully understand it before getting i...

Re: Any kayakers here?

I've been fishing from a sit on top kayak for 10 years now. I'd say that I'm a fisherman that likes kayaks, rather than a kayaker that likes fishing.

If you are interested in fishing from a yak then check out KBF. https://www.kayakbassfishing.com/

Re: What is/ was your career and would you recommend it now?

I am a Risk Manager (Regulatory Compliance) at a mega-corp. I started here at an entry level phone associate role 20 years ago. I am responsible for ensuring my company's adherence to laws and regulations. I am well compensated compared to others in similar roles probably because of my tenure. There...

Re: Do you invest in Real Estate ? Why ?

Do I.. Yes, Would I... No I own a small renter occupied SFH, but not by choice. When I got married, my wife and I both had houses. I was underwater when the market popped, so I rented until the market rebounded. It's back to break even now, but I am still holding it. The reasons that I haven't dumpe...

For me, hitting $0 net worth was by far the hardest.

Congrats on reaching your $100,000 milestone.
Ditto, I was 92k in unsecured debt and upside down on two mortgages before I woke up. Digging out was far harder than my first $100k.

Re: How much (green) cash at home for emergency ?

Maybe I should keep some cash at home, but I don't, and I haven't for most of my adult life. I used to do some coin roll hunting and collect currency, but lost interest in it. Aside from the occasional cash paying customer, I don't handle any cash day to day and don't have a stash of it at home. If ...

I have gotten notices in the mail to inform me that certain credit card(s) will be cancelled due to disuse. They cancel on their own, eventually.

Re: gray hair

I'm 41 and nearly all gray. I embraced it. I paid to have it colored a few times when I was younger but it became a pricey chore. Now that I'm all gray, I prefer the look. All that said, its a personal decision. If it makes you self conscious, or displeases the wife, give it a shot.

Re: Should I take possession of a certified mail?

Is it possible that the certified mail is a written estimate for the projects that you showed him? As others have mentioned, I don't think that accepting certified mail changes/increases your liability. I would open it.

Please keep us posted.

Re: The Side Hustle

I have a bounce house business that I run on nights and weekends. My wife and I were looking for additional income 5 years ago and started researching business ideas. We have two young sons and didn't want a business that would take us away from them. This business allows us to bring the kids along....

Re: New motorcycle rider

I look back at my time as a rider with fondness, but I did suffer an injury. I have a herniated disc resulting from a low side spill at high speed. The full-face helmet saved me from smashing up my chin and teeth but did a number on my neck. I rode for years after that, but sold my bike when the kid...
