Re: U.S. stocks in freefall

Unfortunately, recession is not a choice, and it is a reality. Given the very long cycle we have had, and the current economic indicators, signs are pointing to an imminent recession (within next 24 months). This is simply not true. Employment is highest since 2000, real retail sales making new all...

I don't expect to outperform the market over the long-term, but I do expect to achieve very similar returns with less downside risk. We'll see if it pans out that way.
So you're okay with 2 to 3% CAGR over the next decade? :happy

Re: Six stocks make up 98% of S&P 500 gains in 2018

I'm very happy with that! My trend following strategy has had me primarily in large cap growth this year. My portfolio has returned 8.2% this year, compared to SPY's 2.5%. Can you expand please? Which one of them are you using? There are two components to the strategy I use: one which signals wheth...

Is "tax alpha" a thing?

I've noticed many alternative investing style discussions on this board, including dual momentum and what not. One of the most often cited criticisms of these strategies is that while most agree that some of them do indeed provide better risk-adjusted returns when compared to B&H, their alpha is mor...

When everyone invests passively...

Stumbled upon this blog post a few days ago and was wondering what's the Bogleheads' community answer to this particular critique of index investing? Spoilers: What's more, the price becomes a lot more driven by cash flows than fundamentals. If the two guys are doing active research and decide the s...

Re: U.S. stocks in freefall

What a lousy start of the year! Imposing tariffs is never a good idea. The World Trade Organization exists specifically to resolve international trade disputes. That's the place to fight China's unfair business practices and seek resolution.

Re: Anyone Deleting Facebook?

You can actually deactivate your Facebook account and the Messenger app / messenger.com / Messenger for Desktop will keep working. That may be, but I would be unable to connect with new people. This occurs regularly as my social circle evolves. You can add new contacts within the Messenger app.

I rarely do much on the Facebook other than using it as a messenger system.

Saxo Bank fees

Is it me, or the total cost is absurdly high (0.25% each way or 0.50% total + 0.12% p.a. custody)? Can someone please recommend a cheaper broker for a non-US & non-EU resident?

Re: Ok fellow bogleheads, was the correction scary or nothing?

I am hoping for a 30-40% correction by end of 2018. I may not get my wish, but I WILL get it by 2020 :) What makes you so sure the market will decline 30-40% by 2020? Serious question, what's your rationale? Markets don't go up indefinitely. There are bull and bear markets. And bubbles. We are/were...

Aaaaaaand it's official , we have topped. /s Ed Seykota always joked about reading the news. He brought in headlines from right before big rallies or crashes. The audience would read the title (which was always the opposite of the move) and he'd say that's all the news you need to read. Just the tit...
