Sound like Fidelity suggested KEOGH but did you consider the alternatives in the article I linked above ?
The KEOGH is just a self-employed 401k. (https://www.fidelity.com/retirement-ira ... k/overview). I asked why the KEOGH name to fidelity and they said it's just a legacy thing, it's just a 401k.

I went with the self-employed 401k instead of SEP because I want to contribute as an employEE and as an employER.
(I might be COMPLETELY wrong in my assessment. It's my first time starting a company and setting up a 401k plan)

How long it will take to complete the process depends on whether your old 401k plan effects the rollover by check or electronically,

Years ago I had to do a similar two-step process when I rolled over my Vanguard IRA (not a 401k) to my (new) Fidelity Solo 401k (aka KEOGH). No issues. Fidelity is a very good Solo 401k provider.

Two rollovers? 401k to trad ira to 401k profit sharing

Hello This year I started my self-employed journey. Very excited  I worked for an employer with a nice 401k which allowed pre-tax and post-tax contributions. I started my own firm and with it, I opened a self-employed 401k which fidelity calls profit-sharing KEOGH. I called fidelity and said to please roll over pre-tax prev-employer 401k contributions to the profit sharing and the post-tax to my roth ira. After a few days, they called me back saying that it was not possible and I had to: 1) Rollover pre-tax to trad ira 2) Rollover post-tax to roth ira 3) Rollover from trad-ira to the profit-sharing Step 3 would need a letter of intent from the plan administrator (me). Is it ok to do this? My biggest concern is losing the possibilit...

Make sure whatever plan you choose allows a Mega Backdoor Roth, since you'll be able to contribute up to $58k per year into a mix of pretax or Roth accounts (or all $58k into a Roth if you want.)

You can search solo 401k on this site for a lot of discussions about it.

Do you know if adp allows to hook whatever retirement plan or you need to go with their recommendation?

Retirement account recommendation for an s-corp

Hi!

I have recently quit my full-time job and started an LLC. It's an s-corp.
At my previous work, I was doing backdoor Roth-IRA with Fidelity, and I have my 401k with them using Brokerage Link.

I recently contacted ADP to set up payroll and they said that retirement goes through American Century. After some searching in the forum, it sounds like American Century is expensive.

I believe I am going to do quarterly payrolls for me and I need to decide what to do with the retirement plan. I would like to contribute as much as possible and I am open to options.

Anyone is in a similar position and can recommend what to do?

The reasons to use gold futures are favorable taxation compared to physical gold and cheap leverage so you don't have to tie up so much capital to get your exposure. Whether those things are an advantage is up to you to decide, but it's worth considering gold futures I think.

Re: Tax expert Jeff Levine, CPA/PFS, CFP, is my next “Bogleheads on Investing" guest

Question:

I recently read The Triumph of Injustice and the authors mention the economic substance doctrine.

From Wikipedia:
Economic substance is a doctrine in the tax law of the United States under which a transaction must have both a substantial purpose aside from reduction of tax liability and an economic effect aside from the tax effect in order to be considered valid.
How is it ok for us to do TLH if this doctrine exists?

Thanks!

The reason we are looking at CEDEARs is because of taxes.

As far as we understand, there is a change to the "bienes personales" taxes (A possible translation is a wealth tax. Tax applied to your assets).
If you have assets outside of the country, the tax is 2.5% annually. If you have assets inside the country, it's progressive and if you have less than 42k USD you don't pay it.

Creating a Bogleheads portfolio using CEDEARs in Argentina

Hello, I am trying to help a friend from Argentina setting up a bogleheads portfolio using CEDEARs. CEDEAR are basically ADRs, US stocks accessible through the local broker market.

Here's a complete list of the available CEDEARs:
https://www.invertironline.com/mercado/ ... es/cedears

As you can see the amount of US stocks represented is limited and some of them do not have any trading volume at all (search by Monto operado).
There are no S&P 500, VTI, or BND.

I was thinking of picking one stock from each sector trying to reduce the number of stocks to hold.

Any recommendation?

529 plan for a year?

Hello

I am analyzing the possibility of doing a part-time MBA next year and I am trying to figure out the best way to pay for it.

Last month, I started saving for it in a taxable account using vanguard's federal money market fund.
I started reading about 529 plans and I am trying to figure out if it makes sense to use a 529 plan for a year.

The idea is to open a 529 in Brightstar (I live in IL) and move all the money saved in VMFXX to the 529.

What do you think?

It took me a while to understand that to do Roth contributions in a solo 401k you can't use the common solo-401k from Fidelity. If you are maxing your employee elective contributions at your primary w-2 employment, you can not make designated Roth employee elective contributions to your one-participant 401k. Employer contributions must always be pre-tax, so a Fidelity SE401k or Schwab I401k that do not offer designated Roth accounts are at no disadvantage. I am very sorry, I confused roth with after-tax. Hello Bogleheads I recently started a side job and I am trying to understand which retirement account I should use. I have a full-time job and all my retirement accounts are with Fidelity. I am: - Maxing 401k pre-tax - Doing 10% 401k after-tax (which I then roll over to my roth ira account. Why change? If your lump summing in the past was part of your plan, why not just stick to it? Unless, of course, you've decided that DCA suits you better from an emotional perspective and are committed to doing that going forward. That's perfectly reasonable. Just make sure you aren't switching plans because of some sense that things are bound to drop in the short term, as that rings of market timing. If you get burned, you might find yourself switching back next year, forever choosing the strategy that was best the prior year. I'd suggest sticking to whatever plan makes the most sense to you as a general matter, ignoring your feelings about the current state of the market.
